What to Expect from UIS Online MBA Programs

  • Admission Requirements: Applicants may qualify for admission via more than one academic experience pathway. Applicants must have either 1) a master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university, or 2) a bachelor’s degree in business from a regionally accredited college or university with a 2.5 GPA or higher, or 3) a bachelor’s degree with a non-business major from a regionally accredited college or university with a 2.5 GPA or higher as well as completion of prerequisite courses in business perspectives and fundamentals of business decision making.

Applicants must submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education they have previously attended. No GMAT/GRE score is required to be considered for admission.

  • State Restrictions: UIS welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, including international applicants, military personnel, transfer students and more.

International applicants must submit a complete online application and submit a variety of supporting documentation that may include English language translations of official transcripts from colleges/universities attended in other countries as well as proof of English language proficiency. Applicants are allowed to have their supporting materials evaluated by either a staff member at UIS or an external evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Admission applications are not reviewed until credential evaluations are completed.

There are several exceptions to the credential evaluation requirement. Details on these exceptions can be found on the UIS website. Once international applicants are admitted, they will be eligible to receive support through the UIS Office of International Student Services (ISS).

Military personnel are also welcome to study at UIS. Students with military backgrounds can receive assistance through the UIS Office of Military and Veterans Student Services. Military personnel may qualify for a variety of resources including a waiver of their application fee, reduced tuition rates, state benefits, GI Bill benefits, and tuition assistance programs. Tuition assistance programs are generally available for members of all branches of the U.S. military. Before enrolling in UIS coursework, military students are recommended to contact their educational services officer or a counselor within their military service to clarify their understanding of what benefits may be available to them.

In order to receive Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits, military students must be admitted to or enrolled in a program leading to a degree or certificate awarded by UIS. UIS may also offer academic credit for military training and experience. UIS follows American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for awarding such academic credit.

Additional information on the admission requirements for other students, such as transfer students and first-generation applicants, can be found on the UIS website.

  • Study Plan: Students can complete the MBA program within as little as 12 months. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact UIS to verify the current policy regarding degree study planning.

Paying for the UIS Online MBA Degree Programs

The online MBA degree program tuition figures are listed in the tables below. Prospective students should closely review tuition information and contact UIS for additional support as they navigate both the admission process and the process for applying for financial aid.

The UIS Office of Financial Aid website offers several resources designed to assist prospective and current students with financing their education. This website features information on a variety of topics, including applying for aid, monitoring the status of aid applications, cost of attendance, scholarship resources, and student employment. Also noteworthy is UIS’s commitment to following the principles and standards of the College Cost Transparency Initiative within its financial aid offerings.

Many students will ultimately use some form of financial aid to finance their higher education. One common source of aid is federal financial aid. To apply for federal financial aid, students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students will often finance their education through a combination of resources that may include grants, scholarships, private loans, student employment, tuition assistance programs, and more.

Students from certain backgrounds may also be eligible for additional financial assistance. For example, military personnel are often eligible for tuition assistance due to their past military service and training. In August 2013, then Illinois State Governor Pat Quinn signed House Bill 2353 into law. This bill grants state residency to student veterans who use the Post-9/11 GI BIll® (Chapter 33) and thereby allows them to qualify for in-state tuition. For more information about tuition assistance and other programs available to military personnel and students from diverse backgrounds, please visit the UIS website.
