University of West Florida Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The University of West Florida (UWF) is ranked among the top three of Florida’s 12 Florida state university system institutions. UWF offers the resources and opportunities characteristic of a large university combined with small class sizes and personal attention from highly talented faculty.

The UWF Lewis Bear Jr. College of Business offers an online master of business administration (MBA) program featuring nine specializations: accounting, business analytics, cybersecurity management, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality and tourism leadership, human resources management, supply chain logistics management, and a general MBA program. UWF’s diverse range of specializations makes its MBA program appealing to a broad student body, whose varied skills will ultimately prove valuable to the business world in many ways.

UWF, located in Pensacola, Florida, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate’s, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The UWF Lewis Bear Jr. College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

What to Expect from UWF Online MBA Programs

Admission Requirements: UWF accepts applications for graduate admission from qualified students of diverse backgrounds. Students must be granted both university and departmental admission (for the MBA program) to begin their studies in the program.

To qualify for MBA program admission applicants must submit a complete online application, pay a nonrefundable application fee, prove they hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution in which they either maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale throughout their entire degree or had at least a 3.0 in the last 60 credit hours of coursework, and be in good standing with all past institutions they have attended. The bachelor’s degree that an applicant must hold must not have been earned in the field of business. Applicants to UWF’s MBA programs can be successful even if they have little or no previous business coursework. Finally, no graduate admission test scores are required for admission into UWF’s MBA programs.

UWF Online MBA Programs

State Restrictions: As noted above, UWF welcomes applicants from a diverse selection of candidates. This includes, but is not limited to, international students and military personnel.

UWF has had more than 400 international students from more than 65 countries in recent years. International applicants must meet additional requirements beyond those of U.S. citizen students. Applicants must have their foreign academic credentials evaluated by an approved credential evaluation agency. A listing of approved agencies can be found on the UWF website. Some international students will also be asked to demonstrate their English language proficiency. This is true for applicants who, 1) have a native language other than English, 2) are from a country where the primary language is not English, and 3) do not hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution.

Accepted providers of English language proficiency exams are also available on that section of the UWF website that profiles international student admissions. International applicants must also pay a non-refundable enrollment deposit as well as meet immigration and health requirements. It’s important for international applicants to UWF’s online MBA programs to be aware that the U.S. federal government limits the number of online courses that an F-1 student can count toward a full-time course load during a required semester. F-1 students are recommended to consult with the UWF International Student Office before applying to an online program or enrolling in any online classes. Finally, international applicants should also be aware that their application materials must consist of either original documents or officially signed and certified photocopies of original documents. All documents not originally written in English must have a certified translation.

Military applicants to UWF’s online MBA programs must follow the general admission guidelines designed for U.S. citizens but then also fulfill additional requirements. A variety of programs exist to make higher education more affordable for military personnel. Military applicants may qualify for in-state tuition, receive an out-of-state tuition waiver or receive tuition support through VA education benefits. With the exception of students seeking education benefits via Chapter 31, military students who use VA education benefits must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Given the number of military branches and the variety of supportive resources available to various military personnel, such as active duty military, veterans, dependents, and spouses, UWF highly recommends military applicants closely collaborate with UWF Admissions and the UWF Military and Veterans Resource Center when applying to the MBA program. Additionally, servicemembers should consult with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their military service before enrolling at UWF.

Information regarding admissions policies for other student groups, such as transfer students, can be found on the UWF website.

Study Plan: Students can complete the MBA program within approximately 14 to 16 months. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current UWF policy regarding degree study planning. Though students are not required to have a bachelor’s degree in a business field, they will be expected to develop proficiency in the major functional areas of business in order to succeed in their program.

Accelerated courses of eight and 16 weeks duration allow students to quickly develop proficiency in required skills. UWF offers classes through a variety of learning delivery models including in-person, hybrid, and online. UWF offers a variety of learning delivery options to enhance access to its programs such that more students successfully enroll, study and graduate.

There is no on-campus coursework or other participation requirements to complete this program. UWF recognizes the particular value of fully online degree programs as an effective way to broaden the pool of applicants who ultimately enroll, study, and graduate.

Paying for the UWF Online MBA Degree Programs

The tuition figures for the UWF online MBA programs are listed in the tables below. In addition, residents of Alabama are eligible for a reduced out-of-state rate called Alabama Differential Tuition. As previously noted, military personnel may qualify for financial resources that render their tuition rate roughly equivalent to that paid by in-state students. Prospective students should carefully review the tuition information and contact UWF Admissions for additional support with applications and any questions they may have.

The UWF website features a wealth of resources to help students make informed decisions about pursuing a UWF degree program. Information profiled on UWF’s site includes coverage of topics such as cost of attendance, financial literacy, financial aid resources, UWF’s varied policies and procedures, electronic and information technology accessibility, and much, much more. The UWF financial aid web page itself contains information on many topics such as applying for financial aid, federal emergency grant programs, types of financial aid, special programs, satisfactory academic progress, and more.

Many students will ultimately qualify for financial aid to finance their education. To apply for financial aid, applicants may submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students may also be able to finance their education through various means, including grants, scholarships, private loans, and much more. Students from certain backgrounds may also be eligible for additional financial assistance. As previously mentioned, military personnel may be eligible for various programs to finance their education. Examples of programs targeted at military personnel include the Military Tuition Assistance Program, the Florida National Guard Education Duty for Dollars program, and the MyCAA Scholarship Workforce Development Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. All students are recommended to closely collaborate with UWF as they navigate the admissions and financial aid process.
