Barry University Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Barry University (BU), a Catholic institution of higher education, was founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. BU, in alignment with Catholic intellectual tradition, offers academic programs whose curricula emphasize a combination of study, reflection, and action. These elements of BU degree programs sustain graduates’ thirst for knowledge, commitment to informed action grounded in reflection, and collaborative service inspired by a dedication to social justice.
BU has received a number of accolades in recent years. It is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HIS) by the U.S. Department of Education. The BU D. Inez Andreas School of Business and Public Administration offers an online master of business administration (MBA) program with several specializations: finance, health services administration, international business, management, marketing, and a general MBA program. BU will also begin offering a new MBA specialization in AI Strategy starting in the autumn of 2025.
BU, located in Miami Shores, Florida, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees. The BU D. Inez Andreas School of Business and Public Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). BU is noteworthy for being the only university in South Florida and the only Catholic university in Florida or the southeastern U.S. that holds AACSB accreditation.
What to Expect from BU Online MBA Programs
Admission Requirements: In order to be considered eligible for admission, applicants to the BU MBA programs must submit a complete online application, a transcript indicating completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in which the student maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a four point scale, a one page statement of purpose, and a detailed professional resume that highlights work experience. Some applicants may need to submit GMAT or GRE scores if their GPA scores or work experience are not considered sufficiently competitive.
In addition, applicants must submit official transcripts from every college or university attended, regardless of whether a degree was awarded. A nonrefundable application fee is also required, but may be waived for BU alumni. State Restrictions: BU welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, including international applicants and military personnel.
International applicants are recommended to apply as early as possible as the processing time for immigration can be lengthy. Applicants should also be aware that admission to BU does not guarantee a student visa. Applicants who have international education credentials from an educational system other than the United States must have their credentials evaluated by a foreign credential evaluator who is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Though applicants may use any NACES member agency, two agencies in particular have an application specifically designed for Barry applicants. These agencies are Josef Silny & Associates and Spantran Evaluation Company. More details about the application process for international applicants can be found on the BU International Students FAQs webpage.
BU has been named a Military Friendly School by Victory Media for over a decade. Applicants with military backgrounds must be accepted into a degree-seeking program approved by the State Approving Agency for Veterans Training in order to be eligible to receive Veterans Administration (VA) education benefits. In addition, military-affiliated applicants must be certified by BU’s School Certifying Official for VA education benefits. BU’s VA School Certifying Officials serve as liaisons between the student and the VA. They assist military students eligible for benefits under various chapters of the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB). The BU website offers an extensive listing of resources dedicated to supporting military applicants throughout the admission process and various aspects of student life once their studies have begun.
Study Plan: The BU MBA programs are designed to accommodate the needs of working professionals. Students can complete an MBA program in as little as 12 months if they pursue full-time study, or in as little as 24 months when studying part-time. Students are permitted to set their own degree studies pace.
