Longwood University (LU) was founded in 1839 and is the third-oldest public university in Virginia. Ranked by U.S. News and World Report among the top ten public universities in the South, LU holds the distinction of having the largest proportion of small classes taught by full-time professors of any Virginia public university. LU is also known for its Civitae Core Curriculum. The distinctive approach to education embodied in Civitae prepares students for their future careers through multidisciplinary, co-taught classes designed to create citizen leaders.

The Longwood University College of Business and Economics offers an online master of business administration (MBA) program with eight specializations: accounting, data analytics, economics, finance, general business, marketing, real estate, and technology management. Longwood University’s large selection of MBA programs provides ample opportunities for students to pursue a specialization consistent with their career aspirations and, upon graduation, make a substantial contribution anywhere in the world.

Longwood University, located in Farmville, Virginia, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate and master’s degrees. The Longwood College of Business and Economics is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

What to Expect from Longwood University Online MBA Programs

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or international equivalent from a college or university accredited by the appropriate institutional accreditation agency. To be considered for admission applicants must 1) have a completed bachelor’s degree from a university accredited by the appropriate institutional accreditation agency with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, or 2) have a completed bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a GPA between 2.50 and 2.74, as well as at least five years of professional level work experience.

Other prospective students who do not meet these criteria may still be considered for admission. In this instance, applicants should submit a letter of interest no longer than one page describing their motivation for seeking a Longwood MBA degree, copies of their transcripts, a resume, and, if necessary, a GMAT test score. The required application fee is waived for both active and former military personnel.

State Restrictions: Longwood University welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, such as international applicants, military personnel, and transfer students.

The LU College of Graduate and Professional Studies welcomes applications from prospective international students. International students may complete an online graduate degree while remaining in their home countries. International student applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting organization accepted by LU before their first day of graduate coursework. A listing of recognized accreditation organizations can be found on the LU webpage for admission of international graduate students.

Applicants who have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from outside the United States must have an evaluation of their degree performed by either the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credentials Evaluators. International applicants whose primary language of instruction in their prior degree program(s) was not English must demonstrate English language proficiency via an English language proficiency testing provider.

The LU Office of Veteran and Military Student Services is responsible for assisting military students both during their application process and throughout their studies. Military students may be eligible for a variety of resources, including the Post 9/11 GI Bill for new students, the Montgomery GI Bill, Reserve Educational Assistance, the Veterans Educational Assistance Progra,m and much more. Military personnel are often offered a tuition rate equivalent to the in-state tuition rate or even lower. The LU webpage for military and veteran personnel also features a listing of additional campus and community resources.

Students of all backgrounds are advised to thoroughly research the resources that may be available to them both during the admissions process and once they begin their studies.

Study Plan: Students can complete the MBA program within as little as 10 months. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current Longwood University policy regarding degree study planning.

MBA Curriculum: MBA students complete a 31-credit-hour curriculum consisting of 25 credits of core courses and six credits of elective coursework. This curriculum design is the same across all specializations. Core courses focus on the topics of strategic management and business policy; leadership, group dynamics, and team building; managing data for strategic decision making/data-informed decision making; managerial economics; strategic marketing; managerial accounting; financial management; and information technology. A listing of elective courses specific to each specialization appears below.

• MBA – Accounting Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in data analytics in accounting, and financial statement analysis.

• MBA – Data Analytics Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in data visualization, and data analytics.

• MBA – Economics Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in data analytics, and macroeconomics for managers.

• MBA – Finance Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in financial statement analysis, and investments.

• MBA – Marketing Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in data visualization; consumer behavior and research; and internet marketing strategy.

• MBA – Real Estate Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in real estate markets and appraisal, and real estate finance and investments.

• MBA – Technology Management Curriculum: Students complete elective courses in managing cyber risk in organizations, and cloud computing.

• MBA – General Business Curriculum: Students of the general program may complete electives courses from a large selection of courses. Elective course possibilities include real estate markets and appraisal; data analytics; data visualization; real estate finance and investments; entrepreneurship and small business management; consumer behavior & research; macroeconomics for managers; data analytics in accounting; financial statement analysis; investments; and internet marketing strategy.

Online Experience: LU’s online MBA degree programs are offered fully online. This is true for all specializations. There is no on-campus coursework or other participation requirements to complete this program.

On-Site Requirements: As noted above, the MBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-campus requirements.

Paying for the LU Online MBA Degree Programs

The online MBA degree program tuition figures are listed in the tables below. Out-of-state students pay $480 per credit hour. Prospective students should closely review tuition information and contact LU for additional support with applications and questions as needed.

The LU Office of Financial Aid is responsible for assisting students with the financial aspect of their education both prior to admission and during their studies. The LU website dedicated to financial aid features several resources including a listing of various financial resources for both undergraduate and graduate students, various financial forms, a net price calculator to estimate the cost of attendance, LU’s satisfactory academic progress policy, details on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, and more.

Students often qualify for financial aid as a means of pursuing their education. In fact, a large majority of LU students receive some form of financial aid. To apply for financial aid, applicants submit the FAFSA as a means of determining aid eligibility. Many students may finance their education through a combination of grants, scholarships, private loans, and more. Students of particular backgrounds may also qualify for additional financial assistance. For example, military personnel may qualify for Military Tuition Assistance or other programs. Students of all backgrounds are recommended to work closely with LU in their review of options to finance their education.
