Ohio University College of Business offers an online MBA program featuring eleven concentrations: accounting, AI in business, business analytics, business venturing and entrepreneurship, executive management, finance, health care, human resources management, operations and supply chain management, project management, and strategic selling and sales leadership. The school is located in Athens, Ohio and offers several highly ranked online programs. The faculty consists of successful business professionals who have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills to offer MBA students.

The program has four key areas of instruction: entrepreneurship, strategic leadership, innovation, and professional development. This school’s MBA learning objectives include developing an integrated understanding of business across several disciplines, skills in evaluating and solving business problems, effective leadership abilities, and a grasp of ethical business practices, among others.

Students complete the MBA program with a capstone course. During the capstone, teams of students complete a computer simulation in which they run a business organization while making decisions concerning marketing, finances, production, and other issues. The teams compete with each other during the course.

Professionals with two or more years of work experience who wish to advance their careers into leadership positions may apply. Graduates of MBA programs may go on to varied positions depending on their concentration, including those in healthcare organizations, established businesses, and new ventures.

Admission Requirements: Applicants to the online MBA program must hold a regionally accredited bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and two to five years of professional work experience. No GMAT/GRE is required for entrance. Prospective students should submit an application with a fee, a current resume, three letters of recommendation, a goals statement, and official transcripts.

In addition, international students must provide proof of English language proficiency through IELTS or TOEFL scores, electronic transcripts in both languages (if not in English), and a copy of their diploma/degree. Transcripts may be evaluated by NACES.

Study Plan: The Ohio University online MBA offers two seven-week terms per semester. Online students generally take one course per term to complete the program in six semesters or about two years. Most students spend 15-20 hours per week per class. Students may begin the program in January or August.

MBA Curriculum: The Ohio University MBA consists of 35 credits: 26 core credits and nine credits of elective coursework. Core courses include: accounting for executives; strategic use of information systems; descriptive analytics; operations management; strategic marketing; strategy; management of operations; managerial finance; organizational behavior and human resource management; and an applied business experience course (capstone course).

• MBA Accounting Curriculum: Concentration electives include intermediate accounting concepts; and advanced accounting concepts I, II (two courses).
• MBA AI in Business Curriculum: Concentration electives include AI in business; business analytics with AI; and implementation of AI in business.
• MBA Business Analytics Curriculum: Concentration electives include predictive analytics; business intelligence; and prescriptive analytics.
• MBA Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Curriculum: Concentration electives include managing innovation and corporate entrepreneurship; ideation, concept development and business models; and new venture creation.
• MBA Executive Management Curriculum: Concentration electives include leadership and change management; ethics in leadership; and analytics for executives.
• MBA Finance Curriculum: Concentration electives include investments; financial markets and institutions; and advanced corporate finance.
• MBA Healthcare Curriculum: Concentration electives include foundations of leadership in healthcare; quality, safety and service in healthcare leadership; and financial innovation and growth strategies in healthcare.
• MBA Human Resources Management Curriculum: Concentration electives include employee relations, ethics and legal aspects of human resources management; talent acquisition and strategic management; and performance management and total rewards.
• MBA Operations and Supply Chain Management Curriculum: Concentration electives include management of lean six sigma programs; supply chain risk management; and supply chain project management.
• MBA Project Management Curriculum: Concentration electives include project management I, II (2 courses); and change and risk management.
• MBA Strategic Selling and Sales Leadership Curriculum: Concentration electives include building and developing customer relationships; sales leadership; and sales analytics.

Online Experience: The Ohio University Business School uses Blackboard as their online management system.Coursework is application-based using real world cases that apply in and outside the virtual classroom. Tests and quizzes usually have specific time windows. Most courses and activities are asynchronous; however, some courses have live sessions where digital attendance is required at a specific time. Professors keep live virtual office hours and students are encouraged to participate or get a recording of the sessions for future review.

All Ohio University students are assigned a student support advisor and have access to 24/7 technical support. Online students need a computer with a headset, a webcam, a USB microphone, Microsoft Office 2010 (including Excel 2010 or later), a high speed internet connection, and the required browser Mozilla Firefox. Mac users should note that they must purchase additional software to run Excel 2010 or later. Students can find out more through eCampus, the home for distance education students.

On-Site Requirements: All MBA students, whether in the US or abroad, are required to attend a professional development workshop for one weekend on the Ohio University campus in Athens, Ohio. Tuition covers the credit-hour cost, hotel, and most meals for the weekend. Travel to and from the workshop is not included. Two more workshops are offered, but are not required. All other courses are online.

As a final note, graduate MBA students can seek financial aid in the form of federal loans through the FAFSA, from outside sources, and through employer reimbursement programs. In addition, the Ohio University School of Business has a corporate partner program in which students receive a $5,000 tuition discount if their employer is affiliated.
