Pittsburg State University (Pitt State) is a public university located in Pittsburg, Kansas. Pitt State was originally founded in 1903 as the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School. Throughout its history, Pitt State’s mission has been to provide transformational experiences for its students and the broader community. The Pitt State Gladys A. Kelce College of Business is recognized as one of the nation’s leading business schools according to metrics of quality, standards and value. The Kelce College of Business offers its students a world-class education designed to deeply engage and inspire students as well as prepare them for careers in the business world. The Kelce College of Business is annually ranked in the Best Business Schools listing published by Princeton Review and is also among the top five “Most Family Friendly” business schools in the nation. The College of Business offers an online master of business administration (MBA) program with specializations in: accounting; data science and information systems; healthcare administration; human resources; international business; marketing; and a general MBA program.

Pitt State is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The Gladys A. Kelce College of Business at Pittsburg State University is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Admission Requirements: Applicants may qualify for admission to Pitt State MBA programs via one of two pathways, namely by professional experience or education. Regardless of application pathway, all applicants must submit a complete online application, a resume, and pay an application fee. There are no GMAT/GRE requirement,s and no prerequisite or foundation courses are required for entry. This is true regardless of which MBA degree students pursue.

Those qualifying by professional experience must submit a resume that indicates a minimum of three years of substantial, full-time managerial experience. Management experience is defined as managing people, financial resources or customer relationships beyond a basic supervisory level. People working in a variety of roles may accrue management experience that makes them eligible for admission. Examples include military leaders, business owner-managers and entrepreneurs.

Applicants qualifying by education must have earned an undergraduate degree in a business-related field from an accredited university in the last three years. Though it is preferred that students have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, applicants with a GPA of at least 2.7 may be considered if additional support materials are deemed persuasive to offer admission.

The requirements above are identical across all MBA specializations. Because admissions requirements are subject to change, it is recommended that all prospective applicants contact PSU to verify current admission requirements.

State Restrictions: Pitt State welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, including military personnel and international applicants.

Pitt State takes pride in its designation as both a military-friendly institution and a Yellow Ribbon School. Pitt State’s MBA programs are compatible with the long-term career goals of a diverse student body, including military personnel such as active duty service members, veterans, and military spouses and dependents. The Yellow Ribbon School program was designed specifically to address the typically high tuition costs associated not just with non-resident students but also those who attend private schools, foreign schools and graduate schools. The Yellow Ribbon Program can help military students pay tuition and fees that the Post-9/11 GI Bill does not cover. Pitt State’s low flat-rate tuition is designed to be affordable for all students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree program. In addition to flat-rate tuition, military students may also benefit from college transfer credit for military training and experience. The city of Pittsburg, Kansas also honors veterans by providing discounts, events, and resources.

Pitt State also offers a welcoming community to international students. The local community, known as the “Little Balkans”, has a history influenced by many cultures. In recent years, Pitt State has had more than 400 international students from 40 countries and an international student graduation rate of nearly 100 percent. Individuals seeking admission as international students submit an application consisting of official transcripts showing all secondary and post-secondary school credits, English language proficiency test scores (not required for conditional admission), documentation of current financial resources, a copy of their passport, and additional materials.

Given the complexity often involved with international admissions, international students seeking admission to Pitt State’s MBA programs should consult the Pitt State website for information on the admission process and contact the school directly when in need of assistance as well as to verify they have prepared a truly complete application for admission.

Study Plan: Students can complete the MBA program in as little as 12 months. Students interested in completing a program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current Pitt State policy regarding degree study planning.

MBA Curriculum: MBA students complete a 30-credit-hour curriculum consisting of 21 credits of core courses and nine credits of emphasis courses. This curriculum design is the same across all specializations. The required seven core courses cover the following topics: management control systems; quantitative business analysis; leadership and behavioral management; business, government and society; financial strategy; marketing strategy; and strategic management. A listing of emphasis courses specific to each specialization appears below.

• MBA – General Curriculum: Students complete emphasis courses in topics in business; management and control; and international business.

• MBA – Accounting Curriculum: Students complete emphasis courses in financial statement analysis; and two seminars in the topics of financial statement auditing and tax research.

• MBA – Healthcare Administration Curriculum: Students complete emphasis courses in healthcare systems management; healthcare financial management; and healthcare leadership and operations management.

• MBA – Human Resources Curriculum: Students complete emphasis courses in HRD foundations and applications; personnel development in business and industry; and organizational development and change.

• MBA – International Business Curriculum: Students complete emphasis courses in international trade & finance (seminar); international business; and topics in international business.

• MBA – Marketing Curriculum: Students complete emphasis courses in consumer analytics; business-to-business marketing; and topics in international business.

• MBA – Data Science and Information Systems: Students complete emphasis courses in data visualization; database management; and predictive analytics.

Online Experience: Pitt State’s online MBA degree program is offered fully online. This is true for all specializations. There is no on-campus coursework or other participation requirements to complete this program. Pitt State recognizes the value of using an online learning delivery model as a way to make their programs accessible to more individuals, such as working professionals, and thereby increase the number of students able to enroll, study, and graduate.

On-Site Requirements: As noted above, the MBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-campus requirements.

Paying for the Pitt State Online MBA Degree Programs

The online MBA degree program tuition figures are listed in the tables below. Prospective students should closely review tuition information and contact Pitt State for additional support with applications and questions as needed.

The Pitt State website financial aid page features a number of resources, including a listing of potential financial resources for students such as scholarships, loans, and summer aid, a net price calculator to help guide financial planning, extensive information on the financial aid application process, and links to services specific to student populations such as transfer students and veterans.

A variety of resources are available to help students finance their higher education. A resource many students use is federal financial aid. To determine eligibility for financial aid, prospective students typically submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). When the processing of a FAFSA is complete, students are better able to understand what financial options are available to them. Students of particular backgrounds may also qualify for additional financial assistance. For example, military personnel may pay the same flat-rate tuition as other students. In addition, they may be eligible for resources such as VA Educational Benefits and Active Duty Military Tuition Assistance.
