Purdue Global Online MBA Program

The School of Business and Information Technology at Purdue Global offers an online master of business administration (MBA) program with a general track or one of seven optional concentrations. The program is 100 percent online with no campus visits or internships required. Concentrations include finance, global business, health care management, human resources, information technology, marketing, and project management.

Additionally, the school offers an online MSN-MBA dual degree option with the executive leadership MSN concentration. This dual degree reduces the course load from 120 credits to 88 credits allowing students to complete both degrees in just 2.5 years.** The MSN portion includes 200 clinical hours. Students in the MSN-MBA dual degree program will be eligible to take the Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC) certification exams through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).†

In addition to the traditional MBA pathway, an accelerated MBA option exists for graduates of Purdue Global who have earned a bachelor of science in business administration (BBA), have been accepted into the MBA program, and meet the accelerated MBA option requirements. These students may have five courses waived, reducing their total credit load by 20 credits.

Purdue Global also offers an ExcelTrack® MBA option in which most core courses are taken in modules at an accelerated pace for a flat fee. Students are allowed to take as many 1-credit courses as they can handle in a 10-week period, with each course covering a single piece of knowledge or a single skill.‡

ExcelTrack® students work directly with faculty to ensure progression for the final assessment in each course. This pathway is designed for highly motivated students who already have significant professional knowledge and wish to follow a competency-based program. Students begin with assessments to see what they already know and move past these concepts. Not every course is available in the module format. Students must complete two traditional online courses and 52 one-credit modules. Concentration courses are also delivered via the traditional online format.

Graduates of the MBA program may reduce the time needed to also earn an Executive Juris Doctor (EJD) degree at the Concord Law School by applying certain courses to the degree.§

No specific work experience is required to apply to the online MBA or MSN-MBA dual degree programs. Courses run six weeks each and the program ends with a capstone project that provides the opportunity for students to apply their learning to a real-world issue, plus clinicals for the MSN-MBA.

Purdue Global is based in West Lafayette, Indiana. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The MBA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The MSN is accredited through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Study Plan: Courses run six weeks and start dates are offered frequently about once per month. In order to complete the general MBA in two years, students would take one course per six-week term, which is typical. ExcelTrack® students can move through modules at their own pace and graduate sooner, as well as those who wish to take two courses per term. Students should expect to spend 20 hours on each course per week. The program is 100 percent online and no internship or practicum is required. Students do complete a final capstone project.

MSN-MBA students can complete the program in as little as 2.5 years, earning both an MBA and MSN in executive leadership. Start dates land about once per month.**

Core courses include business perspectives; business communications; business analytics; financial accounting principles and analysis; measurement and decision-making; strategic human resource management; marketing management; economics for global decision-makers; financial management; designing, improving, and implementing processes; managing the value chain; strategic management; ethics in business and society; leadership strategies for a changing world; and an MBA capstone.

If they meet the requirements for the accelerated option they can have the courses for financial accounting principles and analysis, strategic human resource management, marketing management, economics for global decision-makers, and financial management waived. This reduces their initial courseload by 20 credits.

MSN-MBA Curriculum: The MSN-MBA dual degree program comprises 88 credits plus 200 clinical hours for the MSN in executive leadership. The MBA portion includes 48 credits from the general MBA as listed above minus business analytics; ethics in business and society; and designing, improving, and implementing processes.

Through the online LMS, students can participate in online seminars, discussion boards, and other interactive content. Faculty and peers communicate through email and message boards. Course content may include online assessments, peer feedback, case studies, seminars, discussion boards, projects, and assignments.

Faculty members provide online office hours and students have access to the online Writing Center, online library services, the Technology Center, Science Center, and Math Center. Each student is assigned an academic advisor and students can access Career Services for resume writing and reviews, career planning, mock interviews, alumni resources, and networking.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the Purdue Global online MBA as the program is 100 percent online. Students must complete a capstone project at the end of the program. The MSN-MBA program requires completion of 200 clinical hours for the executive leadership portion.
