St. John's University Online MBA - 18-Month Program
St. John’s University Tobin College of Business offers an online MBA with nine concentrations: business analytics, enterprise risk management, entrepreneurship and innovation, finance, interdisciplinary business, risk and financial advisory, and risk management. The MBA can be completed full-time in three semesters or part-time in three years. The curriculum utilizes case studies, current technology, research, analytics, and real-world projects to convey current business concepts. Learning outcomes include skills in strategic decision-making, global perspectives, global finances, marketing management, risk management, and business analytics.
Students from a variety of backgrounds can apply to the online MBA program through St. John’s University, located in Queens, New York. This AACSB-accredited program is taught by full-time professors who offer teaching expertise as well as many years of research, business experience, and connections. Two to four years of professional work experience is preferred, but not required. All online MBA students participate in a foundational three-day workshop with exposure to standardized fundamental business skills and to develop connections with faculty and peers. A final capstone project gives students the opportunity to analyze an issue, prepare a case, develop a solution or product, conduct market research, and engage in public speaking. Graduates of MBA programs go on to leadership and management positions in a variety of fields.
What to Expect from the St. John’s University Online MBA
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the SJU online MBA program must hold a bachelor of science (BS) or graduate degree with a preferred 3.25 GPA. Prospective students must submit an application, statement of professional goals, two letters of recommendation, official transcripts, and GMAT/GRE test scores. Two to four years of professional work experience are preferred, but not required. There is also a GMAT/GRE waiver available to qualified applicants.
International students must provide proof of English language proficiency through TOEFL or IELTS, and a course-by-course evaluation of international credits through AEQUO International Evaluation Services.
Study Plan: The program can be completed in 18 months full-time or about three years part-time. Students complete core courses, nine credits of concentration courses, and a capstone course. There is a three-day residency required for all incoming online MBA students. The program begins in the fall or spring semester.
Curriculum: The SJU online MBA consists of 36 credits including 27 credits of core courses and nine credits of concentration courses. Core courses include global financial and managerial reporting; business analytics; financial management; industrial economics; law, ethics, and the principled path in business; decisions in marketing management; risk management; managing for global success; and a capstone seminar in business strategy.

Risk and Financial Advisory Concentration Courses: Students select three courses from the following: auditing problems; information technology auditing; accounting ethics and professionalism; forensic accounting principles; business valuations; internal auditing; international auditing; fraud examination I or II’ accounting information: governance, risk management, and audit; accounting information: systems development and operations; accounting information: protection of assets; accounting information: enterprise resource planning
Risk Management Concentration Courses: Students select three courses from the following: life-health insurance and employee benefits; risk research methods; risk pricing simulation; finance policy for insurers; insurance operations; micro insurance’ property and liability: insurance; cases in insurance; graduate risk seminar; risk funding tools for insurers; finance for actuarial science; internship
Online Experience: The online MBA is asynchronous meaning there are no set class times during the program. Students log in according to their desired schedule and complete assignments on time as posted. Students can work from their computer, tablet, or hand-held device. Online students access a virtual classroom where they view course syllabi and assignments, complete readings, interact with instructors and classmates through online discussion forums, chats, skype and email, write papers and complete projects. Instructors use a variety of online multimedia tools to make courses immersive and interactive. Online students have access to advising services, student coordinators, library resources, the campus ministry, career services, and 24/7 technical support.
On-Site Requirements: There is one three-day workshop required for the online St. John’s University MBA. The Tobin Graduate Intensive Foundations workshop runs from a Friday at 8:45 am to Sunday at 6:00 pm. A light breakfast and lunch are served each day and Saturday evening includes a reception and keynote speaker. All online MBA students must attend the workshop which focuses on the basics of business quantitative analytical skills. Students also meet with faculty and peers to build in-person relationships before the start of the online program. There are no other on-site requirements.
Paying for the St. John’s University Online MBA
The SJU online MBA costs $1,485 per credit plus university and general fees. With tuition generally rising each year, online students should contact the admissions department SJU for current costs.
