UNC Pembroke Online MBA: Affordable & AACSB-Accredited

UNC Pembroke (UNCP) offers an online MBA with a general path or one of six concentrations: business analytics, finance, financial services, forensic accounting, healthcare administration, and supply chain management. The degree can be completed in as few as 12 months and is completely online with no campus visits required.

Start dates land twice each in the fall, spring, and summer, and the GMAT requirement is currently being waived for all students. (Typically, the GMAT is waived for applicants with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or a master’s degree.)

Students take accelerated seven-week courses that include core and concentration courses. Topics covered for all concentrations include international business, strategic planning, economics, finance, organizational behavior, accounting, and quantitative methods. Students explore human behavior, interpersonal skills, management skills, and financial decision-making. In each concentration, students focus on topics that advance that focus area:

  • Business Analytics – Data analytics, software programming such and Python and R, and statistical methods
  • Finance – Corporate finance, diversifying portfolios, bank management, capital structure, and risk analysis
  • Financial Services – Working with client investments, retirement, portfolios, financial restructuring, and planning and management systems
  • Forensic Accounting – Financial investigation, forensic analytics, forensic accounting, audits, and preparation for certification as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
  • Healthcare Administration – Management of healthcare organizations, including the legal, economic, and ethical issues with courses in health administration and organization, health economics, and legal and ethical issues for healthcare professionals
  • Supply Chain Management – All aspects of supply chain management such as global sourcing, operations management, logistics, information processing systems, distribution, and product development

Graduates of the online MBA may go on to leadership and management positions with titles such as financial analyst, healthcare manager, business operations manager, budget analyst, logistics manager, investment banker, IT manager, project manager, and CEO. These titles may be applicable in different areas of business depending on the concentration chosen. Graduates may also go on to start their own business or work in the global community.

What to Expect from the UNC Pembroke Online MBA

Admission Requirements: Applicants to the online MBA program must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Usually, the GMAT is waived for individuals with a minimum 3.0 GPA and those who hold a master’s degree. The GMAT is currently being waived for all applicants. No work experience is required. Those without a bachelor’s degree in business may need to take up to four foundation courses in addition to the MBA curriculum.

Application materials include an application fee and official transcripts. The application may request additional materials such as a resume, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Students should check with the UNCP School of Business Admissions Department for further details.

Study Plan: The University of North Carolina at Pembroke runs accelerated online courses every seven weeks. Start dates land twice each in the fall, spring, and summer. A strategic planning capstone course is included in the program. The online MBA program is 100 percent online and can be completed in as few as 12 months.

Curriculum: The UNC Pembroke online MBA includes the following core courses: international business; marketing planning and strategy; organizational theory and behavior; managerial finance; managerial economics; quantitative methods; managerial accounting; and strategic planning capstone.

Those following the general MBA path choose four electives from this list: procurement and global sourcing; health administration and organization; time series analysis; corporate finance; human resources management; supply chain management; and personal financial planning. Other electives may be available.

The MBA in business analytics includes data analytics for business; time series analysis; business analytics; and project in business analytics.

The MBA in finance includes investment analysis; corporate finance; and bank management and financial services. Students then choose one of the following: personal financial planning or behavioral finance.

The MBA in financial services includes personal financial planning; investment analysis; and bank management and financial services. Students then choose one elective course from the following: services marketing; human resources management; legal issues for managers; data analytics for business; or entrepreneurship.

The MBA in forensic accounting includes fraud examination; legal issues for managers; forensic accounting; and forensic analytics.

The MBA in healthcare administration includes health administration and organization; legal and ethical issues for healthcare professionals; and health economics. Students then choose one course from the following: business analytics; human resources management; entrepreneurship; operations management; or services marketing.

The MBA in supply chain management includes management information systems; operations management; and supply chain management. Students then choose one elective from the following: transportation and logistics management or procurement and global sourcing.

Students without a business bachelor’s degree may need to complete up to four additional foundation courses including foundations of financial and managerial accounting; foundations of microeconomics/macroeconomics; foundations of business statistics; and foundations of finance.

Online Experience: UNC Pembroke utilizes the Canvas learning management system (LMS). In addition, Examity is utilized for exams and WebEx is utilized for instructor meetings.

Students have access to an ePortfolio account through the ePortfolio Initiative for Career Success (EPICS). Other student services include library and bookstore services, financial aid services, online tutoring through the Writing Center, academic advising and engagement through the Center for Student Success, faculty office hours, technical support, and career counseling.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the UNC Pembroke online MBA is 100 percent online. New online students complete an online orientation.
