MBA@Dayton - Foundational, Accelerated, and One-Year Online MBA Programs from University of Dayton
The University of Dayton offers three online MBA paths depending on previous education and background. The one-year online MBA@Dayton is designed for recent graduates who have completed an undergraduate business degree within the past seven years and who have the ability and motivation to take 7.5 credits per term. It is designed to be completed in as few as 12 months.
The accelerated MBA@Dayton is designed for business professionals with eight or more years of business-related work experience and who earned a business-related bachelor’s degree more than seven years prior. Although work experience is not required, it will determine eligibility for the accelerated program as opposed to the foundational program. The accelerated online MBA takes 15-18 months to complete.
The foundational MBA@Dayton is designed for career-changers or those who want to advance their career into a leadership role and who do not have a business-related bachelor’s degree or do not have the business work experience to qualify for the accelerated online MBA. The foundational online MBA takes 18-24 months to complete.
MBA@Dayton focuses on experiential learning and building a rapport with faculty and peers. The student experience includes weekly, live, face-to-face classes and group assignments, as well as two in-person immersions to foster a sense of community. UD is committed to servant leadership. As such, one of the immersions uses a model of the head (business savviness), heart (humanity), and hands (service) to unite the guiding principles of the experience. The online MBA is AACSB-accredited and the campus is located in Dayton, Ohio.

What to Expect from MBA@Dayton
Admissions Requirements: Applicants to the one-year MBA@Dayton must have earned a bachelor’s degree in business within the past seven years. No work experience is required. Those eligible for the accelerated MBA must have a business-related bachelor’s degree from more than seven years prior and/or eight or more years of business-related work experience. No work experience is required, but it will determine program path eligibility. Those applying to the foundational MBA@Dayton must have a bachelor’s degree; no work experience is required.
Applicants should submit an online application, GMAT/GRE test scores, official transcripts, a current resume, one required letter of recommendation, two optional letters of recommendation and an application fee. A GMAT/GRE waiver is available for applicants who have three or more years of professional work experience or who have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above. International students must submit TOEFL, IELTS or PTE scores. Special requirements apply to international students concerning immersions and gaining student visas.
Study Plan: The online MBA@Dayton has four start dates throughout the year: January, April, July, and October. The one-year MBA can be completed in as little as one year, and students take 7.5 credits per term. The accelerated MBA can be completed in 15-18 months, depending on the number of foundational credits waived due to work and educational background and on how many credits are taken per term. The foundational MBA can be completed in 18-24 months. Students in all paths have up to 60 months to complete the program. There are two required immersions: one on the campus in Dayton, Ohio, and another that may be held on campus or in another global city.
Curriculum: Students in the foundational online MBA complete 36-45 credits, which can consist of 10.5-15 foundation course credits, 12 core course credits, 6-9 elective credits, 6 integrated strategy credits, 3 integrated ethics credits, and 3 immersion credits.
Students in the accelerated program may be able to waive up to 13.5 foundation course credits, therefore most will complete between 31.5 and 39 credits to graduate. The one-year online MBA curriculum allows students to waive all foundation courses and requires the completion of between 30 and 31.5 credits to graduate.
Students in all three paths may choose to add a concentration to their program. Two concentrations are available: Marketing and Business Analytics. Those pursuing a concentration take three electives instead of two, for a total of 9 elective credits. Because the extra course adds an additional term to the program, students in the one-year MBA who choose a concentration will graduate in 15 months instead of 12.
Foundation courses include introduction to financial accounting, introduction to managerial accounting, statistical techniques for decision analysis, principles of operations management, principles of finance, principles of marketing, principles of economics, information technology and systems, and principles of organizational behavior.
Core courses include managerial economics, business analytics, information systems and business decisions, operational effectiveness, organizational behavior, corporate finance, performance measurement and control systems perspectives, and marketing management. Electives may be chosen from several areas, including economics, marketing, finance, management, accounting, operations, and management information systems.
The integrated ethics course is called principled organization: integrating faith, ethics and work.
Integrated strategy courses are capstone experiences that focus on the areas of creating, growing and sustaining a business in a changing national and global environment. They include leadership, strategy and stakeholder management, and an integrative project.
Required electives for the marketing concentration include marketing analytics, digital marketing and negotiation.
Required electives for the business analytics concentration include marketing analytics, analytics: processes and applications, and project management.
Online Experience: The online student experience at the University of Dayton MBA includes weekly, live, face-to-face classes delivered via webcam; self-paced multimedia coursework; and the use of a mobile app. The live classes encourage a community experience, helping students develop closer relationships with faculty and peers. Class sizes are capped at 15 students. All classes are recorded for later viewing. Breakout sessions allow students to complete group projects online.
Faculty members hold office hours for online students and can be accessed through the online platform. Self-paced coursework, which is completed each week, may include group assignments, video lectures, and case studies. The mobile app allows students to complete work anytime, including when they are offline. Online students also have access to orientations, academic advising, admissions assistance, academic resources, course planning, and career planning services.
On-Site Requirements: Students in the MBA@Dayton program attend two in-person immersion experiences. The first is focused on servant leadership and embodies the university’s Marianist principles. Students learn how to use their business knowledge and leadership skills to improve the communities they serve. Students participate in executive panels, personal reflection, classroom sessions, a COPE poverty simulation, and a service project in the Dayton, Ohio, community. The second immersion takes place on campus or in cities around the world. Students are also invited to participate in graduation on campus.
