What to Expect from UC Online MBA Programs

Admission Requirements: Applicants to the UC online MBA programs must meet UC and Hutton School of Business-specific requirements for admission. Applicants must submit a complete online graduate application, along with an application fee, and request that all official transcripts from both undergraduate and graduate work be sent directly to the UC Graduate Admissions office. In addition, students must be in good academic standing and meet certain academic performance metrics in order to be offered admission. Details on academic performance and transcript requirements can be found on the UC website.

MBA program-specific requirements assert that applicants who do not hold an undergraduate degree in business may be provided the opportunity to complete academic leveling courses in subjects including accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing and statistics. The need for such leveling coursework will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Students who wish to complete an MBA with an accounting concentration should have completed an undergraduate degree in accounting or be able to demonstrate completion of accounting coursework effectively equivalent to an accounting degree.

State Restrictions: UC welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds such as international applicants and military personnel.

International applicants often face two admission requirements not common among domestic applicants. These are requirements to demonstrate English language proficiency when indicated as well as the requirement to have foreign academic credentials evaluated by an approved foreign academic credential evaluation agency. Details on acceptable English language proficiency exam providers and foreign academic credential evaluation agencies can be found on the UC website in the graduate admissions information section.

UC is an accredited Military Friendly® university. No application fee is required of veteran, reserve, or active-duty military applicants. Such applicants complete a four-step application process: 1) complete the online application, 2) request official transcripts, 3) explore and apply for applicable military tuition benefits, and 4) formulate and discuss a degree completion plan after the UC Registrar has completed a transcript evaluation.

Military applicants may be able to seek academic credit for past military training and experience, as well as past academic training pursued while in the military. UC is a transfer-friendly university; the university will review an applicant’s military experience, training, prior on-the-job learning, and other applicable aspects of the applicant’s background when making determinations relevant to that applicant’s degree plan, tuition cost, and eligibility for supportive services.

Study Plan: Students can complete the UC MBA degree in as little as 12 months and may choose from one of six start dates per calendar year. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current UC policy regarding degree study planning.

MBA Curriculum: MBA students of all tracks complete at least 30 credits consisting of 21 credits of core courses and nine credits of business electives.

Core courses cover the following topics: managerial accounting; marketing management; managerial finance; managerial economics; business sustainability, corporate governance, and organizational ethics; business analytics for strategic and organizational performance; strategic decision-making; and a capstone course. All candidates completing the MBA degree must complete a written comprehensive examination at or near their completion of the strategic decision-making course. Degree candidates must pass all sections of this examination to complete the program and graduate. Additionally, all other core courses must be completed before registering for the strategic decision-making course.

The capstone course is designed to give students an opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge they have gained over the duration of their studies. Students develop an academic paper or project focused on a practical business need or business-related problem. Through completing this project students further enlarge their business knowledge while concurrently offering their findings in support of improving business practices. The capstone course is designed to be completed during a student’s final semester.

Students earn the required nine credits of business electives through completion of any available 500-or 600-level business electives. Students may also complete other courses if approved by the MBA Program Director. Examples of topics of business elective courses students may take include the following: management of investments; research and grant writing; managing in a global environment; advanced human resource management; and special projects in business and related subjects.

Students may also elect to pursue a concentration. Students completing a concentration must generally complete 15 credits of electives, resulting in a total of 46 credits for their entire degree. A listing of elective courses specific to each concentration appears below.

Paying for the UC Online MBA Degree Programs

The tuition figures for the UC online MBA degree programs are listed in the tables below. Prospective students should carefully review the tuition information and contact UC for additional support with applications and any questions they may have.

Some universities are known for making particular pledges or commitments to make their academic programs more affordable for a large cross-section of would-be students. UC is such a university. First implemented in 2018, the Cumberlands Commitment serves as a college accessibility initiative aimed at making college more affordable for all UC students. Details on the Cumberlands Commitment can be found on the UC website.

Current and prospective students will find substantial information on financial resources on the UC website. Particular financial topics common to university financial aid office webpages include information on financial aid eligibility, application forms and related processes, critical policies that guide financial aid operations, such as satisfactory academic progress policy, financial literacy, cost of attendanc,e and much more.

Many students will ultimately use a variety of resources to finance their education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a widely used form that serves as the primary application for determining eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid. The FAFSA is issued annually, and universities typically provide robust support to help students understand and complete the FAFSA. Financial aid eligibility determinations generated by the FAFSA and other applications are often generated based on a number of factors, such as academic achievement, talent, financial need, and family background.

Students from certain backgrounds may be eligible for additional financial assistance. Examples of such backgrounds include military personnel and those with significant obstacles in their family and personal backgrounds. All prospective graduate students are advised to thoroughly research the UC website to guide them as they formulate their strategy for financing their education.
