In addition, an online MBA in energy management is offered, with the same time-to-completion parameters as the general MBA. These programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Applicants do not need a prior business degree but may need to complete prerequisite courses. No GMAT or prior business experience is required.

Through the MBA in energy management program students gain a solid foundation in business principles and management with a focus on developing and providing environmentally clean energy in an affordable manner. Elective courses for this degree path focus on energy finance and economics, renewable energy, alternative fuels, energy policy and sustainability, and legal issues in the energy industry.

What to Expect from The University of Tulsa Online MBA Programs

Admission Requirements: Prospective students for the online MBA programs must have earned a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited institution. If the bachelor’s degree is not in business, students may need to take prerequisites for the programs. No work experience or GMAT/GRE scores are required.
Applicants must submit an application and fee, resume or CV, official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and proof of English language proficiency if necessary.

Study Plan: The University of Tulsa online MBA programs can be completed in 12 to 24 months on a part-time basis, depending on the speed of study. Students can choose from both full-time and part-time plans of study. The full-time program begins in August only as a cohort and takes 16 months to complete. In addition, full-time students complete a summer internship project with a local business. Part-time students are allowed to drop one course per semester if the work becomes overwhelming. No thesis is required.

MBA Curriculum: The University of Tulsa online general MBA comprises 37 credits, 25 of which come from core courses and 12 of which come from electives.

Those who do not have a business background may need to complete the following courses before entering the main part of the program: Legal environment of global business; statistical analysis; macroeconomics; and microeconomics. These students must also demonstrate math proficiency at the calculus level. The prerequisites are also offered as a boot camp prior to and during the first semester of the Tulsa MBA program.

Core courses for the general MBA include preparing, understanding, and using financial statements; leading and managing organizations; issues in business ethics; financial management; computer information systems; marketing management; the world economy; operations management; and corporate and business strategy. Additionally, online MBA students choose four electives from any department in the Collins College of Business. These include:

MBA in Energy Management: The University of Tulsa online MBA in energy management comprises 37 credits, 25 of which come from core courses and 12 of which come from electives. Core courses include preparing, understanding, and using financial statements; financial management; leading and managing organization; operations management; corporate and business strategy Saint Michael in the world economy; computer information systems; energy markets and commodities trading; and issues in business ethics.

Students then choose 12 credits of electives from energy courses such as energy policy and sustainability; the business of renewable energy and alternative fuels; energy economics; legal and regulatory environment of the energy industry; energy transactions in the international arena; national oil companies–operations, policies, and investment; international energy finance; and energy mergers, acquisitions, and valuation. There may be other electives available to Energy Management students.

Online Experience: Students in the online MBA programs complete courses through live, instructor-led classes (through Zoom) where discussions and collaboration take place. Asynchronous reading and assignments are completed on the student’s own time. The University of Tulsa delivers courses through the Canvas online learning management system (LMS). Class sizes are kept small, and students have frequent access to professors and a strong alumni network. In addition, the University of Tulsa utilizes Yellowdig, a digital social learning community where students can engage, share information, comment on written and media content, and engage more with other online students in the program.

Student services may include an online library and bookstore, academic advising, faculty hours, and technical support.
