University of Wisconsin-Parkside Online Master of Business Administration

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside (UW Parkside) offers a fully online MBA with one of nine tracks: accounting, data analytics, finance, general management, global management, human resources, marketing, program and project management, and supply chain management. The MBA may be earned in as few as 12 months, with affordable tuition, and no campus visits.

Courses last seven weeks each and are taught by experienced faculty in corporate management and entrepreneurship. Students without a business background take two foundation courses to learn about accounting, economics, statistics, and finance.

Core course topics include managerial accounting, innovative management, operations management, project management, IT for business decision-making, corporate financial management, leadership, global, strategic, and marketing management, and competitive decision-making. Students graduate with essential leadership and management skills and are well-versed in the use of analytical tools. Key learning includes effective information gathering, logical, systematic approaches to tasks and decision-making, working individually and in teams, and confidence in diverse work environments.

Course material is frequently reviewed and revised to keep relevant with current business practices and trends. Reviews are enhanced by feedback from the UW Parkside Business Advisory Board, comprised of business entrepreneurs and experienced business leaders with varying management backgrounds.

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The online MBA is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

What to Expect from the UW Parkside Online MBA

Admission Requirements: UW Parkside offers three entry pathways based on undergraduate GPA. For all entry points, a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required, while the GMAT is not required. Regardless of the entry pathway, students are encouraged to submit an email copy of their resume upon application. Proof of English language proficiency is required for those whose first language is not English.

Following are the GPA entry pathways:

  • 2.75 or higher: Applicants request direct mailing of transcripts to UW-Parkside from all previous institutions.
  • 2.5 to 2.749: Along with directly mailed transcripts, applicants must submit a resume showing at least three years of professional and/or managerial work experience. If the work experience requirement is not met, applicants must submit two recommendations.
  • 2.33 to 2.49: Applicants must submit a resume showing three years of professional and/or managerial work experience, two recommendations, and the transcripts as described.

Study Plan: Online MBA courses run seven weeks each, with six starts per year: two in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The degree can be earned in as few as 12 months. The program is 100 percent online with no required campus visits or local field experiences.

Curriculum: The UW Parkside online MBA comprises 30 credits. Foundation courses for those without a business background include Foundations in Finance and Accounting and Foundations in Statistics and Economics.

Core courses for all concentrations include creative and innovative management; advanced operations management; managerial accounting; project management; information technology for business decision-making; contemporary challenges in managing organizations; corporate financial management; leadership: theory, application, and skill development; marketing management; advanced global management; competitive decision-making; and advanced strategic management.

Those completing the general management concentration choose three electives of their choice. Other concentrations take courses as follows:

Accounting: Students take three of the following: financial statements analysis and business valuation; auditing and forensic accounting methods; corporate taxation for managers; and accounting data analytics.

Data Analytics: Students take the course technologies for data analytics, and choose two of the following: optimization techniques, digital marketing and social media, and quantitative models for supply chains.

Finance: Students take investments, international financial management, and financial institution management.

Global Management: Students take global supply chain management, international financial management, and global marketing management.

Human Resources: Students take three of the following: strategic compensation; strategic human resource management; performance management; workforce planning and staffing; and employee training and development.

Marketing: Students take integrated marketing communications, sales and key account management, and global marketing management.

Program and Project Management: Students take three of the following: agile and waterfall project management; resource management and budgeting; project leadership and change management; and team building and communication in projects.

Supply Chain Management: Students take global supply chain management and quantitative models for supply chains, and choose one of the following: integrated marketing communications; global marketing management; sales and key account management; and optimization techniques.

Online Experience: The University of Wisconsin-Parkside delivers courses asynchronously through Canvas, its online learning management system (LMS). Students can take the free Canvas Student Resources Course, which offers written and video tutorials, information on Canvas tools, and Parkside resources. Students can also use the Canvas Interactive Tutorial to walk through many of the Canvas tools and Canvas Guides to search for topics about Canvas. Additionally, 24/7 technical support is offered by Canvas.

Students may watch recorded lectures or videos, complete interactive assignments, case studies, and projects, participate in online discussion boards, and take assessments. Online student services may include faculty office hours, admissions and financial aid counseling, online tutoring, career counseling, and other services.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the UW Parkside online MBA is 100 percent online.
