The University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) Haslam College of Business offers a fully online master of business administration (MBA) program designed to be completed in 32 to 36 months part-time. The practical curriculum is hands-on and interactive while being entirely online. Electives cover concepts such as forecasting, financial planning, and valuation in financial management, customer insights for strategic decision-making, and emerging issues in business and organizational management.

UTK graduates become part of a group of Volunteers (Vols) for life, opening pathways for others through transformational leadership, service, and support. MBA students can also apply their knowledge and skills to their current position as they continue working full-time while attending online classes.

Start dates land in the fall, spring, and summer. Courses include live, online class sessions and other coursework outside of class. Careers may lead to work in different organizations or an advanced position in the professionals’ current employment.

What to Expect from the UTK Haslam College of Business Online MBA

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a business or non-business field. No GRE or GMAT is required. At least two years of work experience are recommended, and a professional resume is required to apply. Other application materials include an application fee, two references, copies of official transcripts for the application process with official transcripts required for full admission to the program, and responses to a series of short essay questions.

Study Plan: The online MBA program is designed for full-time working professionals and is typically completed part-time in 32 to 36 months. Start dates land in the fall, spring, and summer. The program is not cohort-based. A capstone experience culminates the program, allowing students to call upon the skills and knowledge learned throughout and apply it to strategy decisions through research, class lectures, case discussions, and professional articles.

MBA Curriculum: The UTK online MBA program comprises 45 credits. Core courses include financial and managerial accounting; business communications; quantitative methods; operations management and decision modeling; supply chain management strategy, operations, and customer value; financial management; financial statement analysis; strategic decision-making; marketing strategy; supply chain models; economics in a global environment; and strategic management capstone.

Students also complete three electives, including financial management: theory and practice, customer insights, and emerging issues in strategy, organization, and management.

Online Experience: MBA coursework is fully online and is delivered synchronously through Canvas. Outside of live, weekly class sessions through Zoom, students complete assignments and other work. Online MBA students can access academic advisors, financial aid counselors, faculty during virtual office hours, the UTK library system, the UTK Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration, the Office of Information Technology, and an alumni network.

On-Site Requirements: One campus visit to the Knoxville, TN, campus for a three-day orientation is required. Other, optional in-person events may be offered throughout the program.
