Calvin University Online MBA with Two Concentrations

Calvin University offers an online master of business administration (MBA) with a general track or in one of two concentrations: business analytics or nonprofit management. Outcomes include the ability to make wise, ethical business decisions, solve complex problems, address business challenges, develop effective business strategies, operate with an awareness of social responsibility, and serve as a self-aware leader.

Calvin University, formerly Calvin College, offers small class sizes, part-time and full-time pathways, and relational teaching. The business analytics concentration focuses on data analysis to contribute to the understanding of patterns and market trends. Topics of study may include data collection, management, and processing, quantitative summaries, how to present data visually, predictive analytics, and data communication.

The nonprofit management concentration homes in on the skills necessary to create and maintain a sustainable nonprofit organization. Topics of study may include nonprofit finance, fundraising, nonprofit organizational behavior and leadership, roles and responsibilities, key accounting principles, and nonprofit organizational design. Faculty are experts who have experience in the nonprofit management arena.

The online MBA is offered both part-time and full-time and can be completed in 12 to 24 months, depending on the speed of study. Courses last eight weeks and students can begin the program six times per year: twice each in the fall, spring, and summer.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The GMAT or GRE is not required unless an applicant has less than a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Calvin University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

What to Expect from the Calvin University Online MBA

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited higher learning institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The GMAT or GRE is not required unless an applicant has less than a 3.0 GPA. Application materials include an online application, official transcripts, and a 500-word essay. No work experience is required.

Study Plan: The Calvin online MBA can be completed in 12 to 24 months in either a full-time or part-time pathway. Courses last eight weeks each and start dates land six times per year with two each in the fall, spring, and summer. There are no residencies or other campus requirements and this degree does not include field experience.

MBA Curriculum: The online MBA program comprises 36 credits. Quantitative business core courses include statistical analysis; marketing concepts; accounting; and corporate finance. Organizational leadership core courses include leadership, service, influence, and transformation; leading groups and teams; leading organizations: structure, culture, and change; and responsible leadership. A strategic management capstone is also included for all tracks.

General MBA students complete three additional MBA courses to complete their degree. Concentration courses are as follows:

  • Business Analytics: Data wrangling; predictive analytics; data visualization.
  • Nonprofit Management: Nonprofit boards and community leadership; nonprofit financial management; designing an effective nonprofit organization.

Online Experience: Calvin University recommends all online students have a laptop or desktop computer, headphones, and a webcam. A smartphone or tablet is not recommended as a primary device. New students complete an online orientation. Courses are delivered through Moodle. Student support services include academic advising, an online library and bookstore, faculty help, disability services, career development, the Rhetoric Center for writing and presentations, and technical support.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the online MBA through Calvin University. Students are welcome to visit the campus in Grand Rapids, MI.
