Delta State University Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Delta State University (DSU) is a four-year public university drawing its student body from much of the United States as well as many foreign nations. Like many universities in the South, Delta State University began as a teacher’s college. The mission of Delta State University is to offer high-quality academic programs and opportunities that are timely, innovative, and meet the needs of its student body. DSU seeks to fulfill its mission by adhering to its guiding principles.

Among its guiding principles are a commitment to academic program quality, learning, scholarship, student engagement, support for the arts, respect for people and ideas, and regional and economic development. DSU’s academic programs and campus community resources are ultimately dedicated to cultivating the intellectual and personal growth necessary to create graduates who will contribute their skills throughout the world.

The Delta State University School of Marketing, Management and Business Administration offers an integrated online master of business administration (MBA) degree program with six specializations: human resource management, healthcare administration, non-profit management, entertainment business, information systems, and a general MBA program. The MBA program is specifically designed for working business professionals as well as recent graduates who wish to further develop their interpersonal, managerial, and leadership skills to advance in their careers.

Delta State University, located in Cleveland, Mississippi, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The Delta State University MBA program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

What to Expect from DSU Online MBA Programs

Admission Requirements: To be offered admission, applicants must have earned an accredited bachelor’s degree in which they maintained a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, as well as fulfill all requirements for admission to the DSU Graduate School. Exceptions to the GPA requirement may be offered in instances where applicants have four or more years of professional experience. Applicants who hold a GPA less than 3.0 may still be offered conditional admission. Such applicants must earn a grade of at least a “B” in their first three courses to be permitted to continue in the program.

Academic success is frequently contingent on completion of prerequisite coursework. Applicants who lack business coursework or who performed poorly in such courses will be required to take MBA foundation courses and also earn a grade of at least “B”. A listing of required undergraduate coursework needed to avoid being required to complete MBA foundation courses can be found on the DSU MBA program webpage.

State Restrictions: DSU welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds such as international applicants and military personnel.

DSU’s International Student Services team assists international students with their studies at DSU. To be admitted, international applicants must meet additional requirements beyond those expected of domestic graduate school applicants and the DSU MBA program in particular. International applicants must submit an evaluation of their non-US university transcripts provided by an approved foreign academic credential evaluation agency, immunization records, an affidavit of financial support indicating they have sufficient resources to pay for academic expenses, and an official bank statement from the bank listed in the financial sponsor section of the affidavit of financial support. In many instances, international applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency via an exam administered by an accepted English language proficiency exam provider. DSU accepts language test scores from TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo. Finally, international students must be enrolled in DSU’s international student health insurance.

DSU also welcomes applications from active-duty military personnel as well as veterans. The DSU Veteran Services office serves as a centralized resource for military applicants and students. The office provides a number of resources including educational benefits, academic advising, career counseling, and mental health support. Military students may benefit from various resources, including an in-state tuition rate and a variety of financial resources, including veterans affairs education benefits, military and veteran-specific scholarships, federal tuition assistance, and the Mississippi National Guard State Educational Assistance Program. Additionally, priority registration is available to active-duty and veteran students. Military applicants should contact DSU directly to confirm admission requirements.

DSU also welcomes admission of former, transient and non-degree seeking students. Details on admission requirements for these student categories can be found on the DSU website.

Study Plan: Students can complete the DSU MBA program in as little as 12 months. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact DSU to verify current university policy regarding degree study planning.

MBA Curriculum: MBA students generally complete a total of 30 credit hours in order to graduate. MBA core coursework consists of a general iMBA course (three credits), an operational strategy module and a financial strategy module. The operational strategy module consists of three courses in the topics of human resource management, strategic marketing, and managerial economics. The financial strategy module also consists of three courses, and these courses cover the topics of managerial accounting, financial management, and business analytics. In summary, students complete 21 credit hours of core courses composed of the aforementioned courses.

Students of all tracks then complete 9 credit hours within their emphasis (concentration) module. Students of the information systems track are an exception. Students of this track complete an emphasis module composed of 12 credit hours of electives. Elective courses vary by degree specialization. A listing of elective courses specific to each specialization appears below.
