University of Central Oklahoma Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is Oklahoma’s largest metropolitan university. Initially founded in 1890 as Oklahoma’s Teachers’ College, UCO continues to be dedicated to education in the present day. UCO is respected for its achievements in social mobility, veterans’ outreach, and first-generation student programming. UCO’s mission is to provide transformative learning, thereby empowering its students to become not only engaged citizens but also leaders.

UCO offers a single online professional master of business administration (PMBA) program featuring a generalist curriculum. The mission of the online PMBA program is to provide its students with a unique learning experience that provides every student with the leadership and managerial skills necessary to become effective business professionals post-graduation. The curriculum prepares students for diverse roles in the business world, where they will drive innovation and develop and implement growth and management strategies on behalf of their employers.

UCO, located in Edmond, Oklahoma, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The UCO College of Business and MBA program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

What to Expect from the UCO Online MBA Program

Admission Requirements: To be offered admission, applicants must submit a complete graduate admission application, a 500-word personal statement, a current resume, and an official undergraduate transcript. In addition, applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and a competitive GRE/GMAT score. A waiver of the GRE/GMAT score may be offered to qualified applicants. In order to confirm they have met all graduate admission requirements, applicants are recommended to consult UCO’s degree sheet available on the university’s website.

State Restrictions: The UCO online PMBA program welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds such as international applicants and military personnel.

International students should confirm applicable visa or immigration requirements for online students completing a program at a US institution of higher education while living abroad. The graduate school application process for international students involves both the UCO Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) and the Office of Global Affairs (OGA).

Applicants begin the process by completing the online application and paying a non-refundable fee. JCGS manages the admission process while OGA handles student visa-related matters. International applicants must also provide proof of financial support as well as demonstrate their English language proficiency. Language proficiency may be demonstrated with scores from the TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or iTEP, or by providing proof of completion of 12 weeks of intensive English study at an approved ESL program within the USA combined with a sufficiently competitive score on one of the aforementioned language proficiency exams.

Applicants must not undergo such testing if their transcripts indicate completion of an undergraduate degree at an accredited university or college within the United States or if they come from a UCO-approved native English-speaking country. Individuals already studying at a high school, language school, college, or university within the U.S must submit additional dUCOments to complete their admission application. Given the complexity of regulations related to international studies and the reality that such rules can frequently change, it is recommended that international applicants work closely with UCO while preparing their applications.

UCO does not have admission requirements solely targeting military students. Military and related students must meet the same graduate school admission criteria as other students. Such applicants are advised to contact the UCO Veteran Higher Education Resource and Opportunity Center (VetHERO) for assistance with their application to the UCO PMBA program.

Study Plan: Students can complete these MBA degrees in as little as 12 months. Students must submit a plan of study with their graduate program advisor and JCGS by the end of their first semester of graduate study. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current UCO policy regarding degree study planning. Admission is available twice per year in the autumn and spring.

Students must maintain a certain level of academic performance to be permitted to graduate. They must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4 point scale, earn no more than six credit hours with a grade of “C” and retake no course more than once.

MBA Curriculum: The online MBA degree program requires completion of 33 to 34 credit-hours, comprising both core courses and elective courses. The curriculum is designed via collaboration with local industry leaders. This ensures the curriculum effectively prepares students for careers in a variety of industries post-graduation.

Students complete 25 credits of core courses fUCOsed on the following topics: managerial economics; business law concepts for the workplace; managerial finance; managerial accounting; organizational culture and dynamics; managerial statistics; building effective teams; market driven strategies; managerial and operational analytics; leadership development (two courses); project and program management; business ethics and sustainability; and strategic management.

Students complete eight to nine credit-hours of electives to customize their studies in accordance with their career goals. Elective courses cover the following topics: accounting research methods; accounting theory; managerial economics; international immersion; financial market and investment management; organizational change and innovation; and a seminar/special topics course.

Students must also complete a capstone course in their final semester of enrollment in the MBA program. Before enrollment, they must have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 throughout their studies.

Online Experience: The UCO PMBA degree program is a fully online program. There are no on-campus coursework or other participation requirements to complete this program.

On-Site Requirements: As noted above, the PMBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-campus requirements. Students interested in pursuing an in-person MBA program may also consider other options at UCO. Details regarding these other options can be found on the UCO website.

Paying for the UCO Online PMBA Degree Program

The tuition figures for the online PMBA degree program are listed in the tables below. Prospective students should carefully review the tuition information and contact UCO for additional support with applications and any questions they may have.

The UCO website maintains a wealth of information explicitly dedicated to student financial resources. Particular financial topics available online include information on financial aid eligibility, application forms, and deadlines, satisfactory academic progress policy, types of aid available, money coaching and estimated attendance costs for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Many students will ultimately use a variety of resources to finance their education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a widely used form that serves as the primary application for determining eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid. The FAFSA is issued annually, and universities typically provide robust support to help students understand and complete the FAFSA. Financial aid eligibility determinations generated by the FAFSA and other applications are often based on several factors, including academic achievement, talent, financial need, and family background.

Students from certain backgrounds may be eligible for additional financial assistance. Examples of such backgrounds include military personnel, and those with significant obstacles in their family and personal backgrounds. All prospective graduate students are advised to thoroughly research the UCO website to guide them in formulating their strategy for financing their education.
