Creighton University’s Heider College of Business offers an online MBA with a general study option and ten concentrations: artificial intelligence, business intelligence and analytics, conflict resolution, finance and technology, finance, financial psychology and behavioral finance, healthcare management, human resource management, leadership, and risk management.

The college also offers a hybrid executive Healthcare MBA (EMBA) for clinicians and mid-career healthcare professionals. Both programs emphasize values-based leadership, ethical decision-making, and the practical application of business knowledge.

The online MBA helps students develop as critical thinkers, effective communicators, and responsible business leaders. Students can customize their studies around their academic background, business experience, and career goals, with advanced courses available for those who already have substantial business preparation.

The EMBA is a separate, accelerated program designed for clinicians, working physicians, healthcare executives, and hospital administrators that combines healthcare business knowledge with management and leadership development. Students study with a multidisciplinary cohort, bringing different professional perspectives to the learning experience.

The online MBA offers flexibility for students balancing graduate study with personal and professional goals. The executive healthcare MBA combines online instruction with four on-campus residencies, allowing students to continue their professional work while participating in experiential, residential, and simulated learning activities. Its curriculum is designed around the American College of Healthcare Executives, a professional association in the healthcare industry.

Creighton University is a private research university in Omaha, Nebraska. It is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The Heider College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). The executive healthcare MBA is accredited by the AACSB and the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).

Admission Requirements: Applicants to Creighton University’s online MBA and executive healthcare MBA must hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Both programs require an application, a personal statement, a resume or curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation. International applicants to either program must meet English language proficiency requirements.

For the online MBA, applicants must submit official transcripts from all educational institutions attended and must have completed an undergraduate statistics course. A personal interview is required. One to three years of professional work experience is preferred.

For the EMBA, applicants must have at least three years of management experience or clinical practice in a healthcare organization. Official transcripts are required from institutions where applicants earned a bachelor’s degree or higher. A personal interview may also be requested and can take place in person or virtually.

Study Plan: Creighton University’s online MBA requires 33 credits and can be completed in just over two years. It consists of four core courses totaling 12 credits, four functional core courses totaling 12 credits, and three additional courses totaling nine credits. Students use these final nine credits for approved electives or a concentration. Concentration courses are part of the 33-credit degree rather than additional coursework.

Functional core courses are selected according to the student’s previous preparation, with higher-level courses available for those who have completed relevant business coursework. Students must complete the required courses in their approved plan to earn the degree.

The executive healthcare MBA is an accelerated, 42-credit program completed in 16 months. Students progress with a cohort through a hybrid format that combines online instruction with four on-campus residencies. The curriculum includes a capstone and is structured for working healthcare professionals.

MBA Curriculum: The core courses required of all MBA students are survey of business intelligence and analytics; leadership and organizational behavior; business policy and managerial action; and business, ethics, and society.

Functional core courses depend on each student’s academic background and business experience. For students without a business background, these courses are accounting for managers; managerial finance; economic analysis for managers; and marketing management. Higher-level courses are available for students who have completed relevant business coursework.

The artificial intelligence concentration includes machine learning; seminar in management (AI business applications); and seminar in management (AI foundations for business leaders).

The business intelligence and analytics concentration offers Python programming for analytics; statistics for business analytics; applications of optimization modeling; data governance; cybersecurity; data visual analysis and visualization; machine learning; and database management systems.

The conflict resolution concentration offers courses such as introduction to conflict engagement; negotiation; dynamics of conflict resolution and engagement; and organizational collaborative practice and conflict engagement.

The finance and technology concentration, also called FinTech, includes blockchain technologies; machine learning; and foundations of FinTech.

The finance concentration offers advanced managerial finance; international financial management; investment value and theory; introduction to enterprise risk management; foundations of FinTech; fixed income securities; equity analysis; and derivatives and financial risk management.

The financial psychology and behavioral finance concentration offers applied behavior finance; introduction to financial psychology; personal financial psychology; retirement planning and employee benefits; investment value and theory; tax theory and business decisions; personal insurance risk management; psychology of family finances; and financial communication and client interviewing.

The healthcare management concentration offers courses such as introduction to healthcare management; healthcare quality, safety, and operations; health policy and economics; and legal and ethical considerations in healthcare management.

The human resource management concentration includes leading with human resource management; introduction to conflict engagement; and negotiation.

The leadership concentration offers leadership development; change leadership; introduction to enterprise risk management; leading with human resource management; sustainable enterprise and social entrepreneurship; and introduction to conflict engagement.

The risk management concentration includes cybersecurity; introduction to enterprise risk management; and derivatives and financial risk management.

Executive Healthcare MBA Curriculum: The EMBA combines healthcare-focused business, management, and leadership coursework. Required courses are introduction to healthcare management; health economics and population health management; current trends in healthcare management; healthcare marketing; healthcare strategy; healthcare quality, safety, and operations; healthcare information systems; informatics in healthcare management; leading healthcare organizations; healthcare human resource management; health policy and economics; legal and ethical considerations in healthcare management; healthcare finance; healthcare accounting; evidence-based decision making in healthcare management; and capstone.

Online Experience: The Heider College of Business delivers online MBA courses asynchronously through BlueLine. The online MBA is delivered in a fully online format, allowing students to complete coursework without attending classes on campus. Students can choose from ten concentrations and work with the Graduate Business Programs Office to create an individualized study plan. The program is designed to be flexible for working professionals while providing the same degree as Creighton’s on-campus MBA.

On-Site Requirements: The online MBA does not require students to attend classes on campus. In contrast, the executive healthcare MBA uses a hybrid format and includes four on-campus residencies in Omaha, Nebraska. These residencies give students the opportunity to learn in person, connect with faculty and classmates, and build professional relationships while completing the rest of their coursework online.

Graduate students may apply for unsubsidized federal student loans through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA determination can be used to provide proof of funding for the EMBA program. Additionally, employers may offer tuition reimbursement programs or discounts. Finally, students can seek outside funding, including private loans and community or other grants and scholarships.
