Midwestern State University Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Midwestern State University (MSU Texas) is a public university located between Oklahoma City and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. MSU Texas was founded in 1922 as Wichita Falls Junior College. The college was renamed Hardin Junior College in 1937, and the first bachelor’s degrees were awarded in 1948.

Today, MSU Texas offers a number of degree programs with an average class size of just 30 students. MSU Texas’s mission is to empower students and the campus community through dedication to academic excellence, personal growth, and a culture of lifelong learning. MSU Texas seeks to fulfill its mission by adhering to its core values of connection, vision, integrity, community, and people-centeredness.

The MSU Texas Dillard College of Business Administration offers an online master of business administration (MBA) degree program with six specializations: business administration, business analytics, accounting, energy management, health services, and sports management. MSU Texas is dedicated to serving as a regional center of excellence and leadership in business education. The Dillard College of Business Administration (DCOBA) program fulfills its mission not only through its MBA program but also through the operations of multiple centers that provide economic development services.

MSU Texas, located in Wichita Falls, Texas, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This accreditation allows MSU Texas to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. MSU Texas’s MBA program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

What to Expect from MSU Texas Online MBA Programs

Admission Requirements: To be offered admission, applicants must submit a complete online graduate admissions application, official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended that includes confirmation of award of a bachelor’s degree (in any field) from a regionally accredited college or university, an official test score from either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), and an application fee. Exemptions of the GMAT/GRE requirement are available. Applicants must have maintained a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for admission.

The MBA program offers both unconditional and conditional admission. Details on requirements for these forms of admission, exemptions of the GMAT/GRE requirement, and other topics can be found on the MSU Texas MBA program webpage.

State Restrictions: MSU Texas welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, such as international applicants and military personnel.

The MSU Texas Office of Admissions is responsible for coordinating the admission of international students. International applicants can apply through the Common App or applytexas.org. International applicants to graduate programs must have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

International applicants who have completed the education they are using to qualify for admission at an institution outside the USA must typically submit an evaluation of their foreign academic credentials. Such evaluations may be prepared by a number of foreign academic credential evaluation services. Details on this topic can be found online. International applicants are also typically required to provide proof of English language proficiency via test scores obtained from an approved language proficiency exam provider. Accepted English language proficiency exams include the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), IELTS, ITEP, and PTE.

Demonstration of English language proficiency is commonly required of applicants originating from a country where English is not the native language. Exemptions to English language testing may also be available.

Military and affiliated students are also welcome to complete MSU Texas degree programs. The application process for such applicants to the MSU online MBA program is quite similar to that for domestic student applicants. Military applicants submit an online application, official transcripts, and an application fee. Official transcripts must include all transcripts from both civilian and military educational pursuits. Many universities review military transcripts to determine whether a student is eligible for academic credit for prior military training and experience. Details on the admission process for military and affiliated students can be obtained by contacting MSU Texas directly.

Study Plan: Students can complete these MBA degrees in as little as 12 months. Students can study at their own pace. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended period should contact MSU Texas to confirm the university’s policy on degree planning. Students lacking an undergraduate degree in business must complete a six-credit-hour online leveling course to ensure they have the necessary foundational business knowledge necessary for success in the program. This leveling course is offered every semester.

MBA Curriculum: MBA students must complete a total of 33 credits to graduate. The MBA curriculum consists of 24 credits of core courses and nine credits of electives. There is some variation in core course requirements among degree program concentrations. Core courses cover the following topics: cost analysis and control; advanced applied business statistics; financial administration; current issues in organizational behavior; graduate seminar in business policy; introduction to business analytics; graduate seminar in marketing; and finally a course in either managerial economics or data modelling and forecasting.

Elective courses vary by degree specialization. A listing of elective courses specific to each specialization appears below.

  • MBA Business Administration Curriculum: The general program requires students to complete three 5000-level or 6000-level courses. Course availability is subject to change, and the MBA coordinator must ultimately approve course selection.
  • MBA Business Analytics Curriculum: Students complete three courses from the following topics: model-based problem solving; applied analysis of business process; machine learning applications in business; data visualization; and data mining and text analytics in business.
  • MBA Accounting Curriculum: Accounting concentration coursework is designed to help students prepare for the CPA examination. This learning delivery format may change in the future. Prospective students of the accounting concentration are advised to contact MSU Texas directly to confirm the current course delivery format.

Online Experience: With the exception of the MBA program with a concentration in accounting all MSU Texas online MBA degree programs are offered fully online. There are no on-campus coursework or other participation requirements to complete the MBA program. The online delivery model MSU Texas uses for its MBA programs is designed to enhance accessibility and thereby broaden the pool of qualified applicants who will enroll, study, and graduate.

On-Site Requirements: As noted above, the MBA degree program is generally offered fully online. The MBA with a concentration in accounting is a singular exception. Students seeking to complete this concentration must at present complete concentration courses (and preparatory undergraduate courses) in person at the Wichita Falls campus. This learning delivery format may change in the future. Prospective students of the accounting concentration are advised to contact MSU Texas directly to confirm this concentration’s current course delivery format.

Paying for the MSU Texas Online MBA Degree Programs

The tuition figures for the online MBA degree programs are listed in the tables below. Prospective students should carefully review the tuition information and contact Midwestern State University for additional support with applications and any questions.

The MSU Texas website offers a variety of information on student financial resources. Topics featured online include the cost of attendance (tuition and fee schedules), financial aid options, important financial aid policies such as satisfactory academic progress, common financial aid applications such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA), a financial aid terminology listing, and a frequently asked questions index.

Many students use a variety of resources to finance their education. The FAFSA is a ubiquitous form that often serves as the primary application used to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid. The FAFSA is issued annually, and universities generally provide robust support to help students understand and complete it. Financial aid eligibility determinations generated by the FAFSA and other applications are often generated based on a number of factors, such as academic achievement, talent, financial need, and family background. Students seeking state aid should also complete the TASFA. The MSU Texas Graduate School also offers graduate merit scholarships and graduate assistantships.

Students from certain backgrounds may be eligible for additional financial assistance. Examples of such backgrounds include military personnel, first-generation students, and those with significant obstacles in their family and personal backgrounds. For example, military personnel may benefit from VA educational benefits programs under Chapters 30, 33, 35, 1606, 1607, and 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation). All prospective students are advised to explore the MSU Texas website thoroughly.
