The University of Denver Daniels College of Business, based in Denver, Colorado, offers an online MBA with a general track and concentrations in marketing, finance, and executive leadership. Alternatively, students can work with an academic advisor to create a customized concentration to meet individual goals in areas such as real estate finance, entrepreneurial marketing, nonprofit management, and human resource management. The MBA@Denver can be completed in just 21 months and the concentrations do not add any credits to the degree.

The online program follows a model of management education called the “Daniels Difference.” This process brings a wealth of interactive components and experienced professionals into the classroom, allowing students to study real-world case studies, collaborate with and gain insights from executives, work with alumni, and develop the big-picture skills necessary for the business world. Courses offer live, face-to-face sessions with self-paced coursework to allow for peer/faculty interaction and flexibility. Two in-person immersions are also required.

MBA@Denver integrates ethics, environment, and social elements into the degree, helping students see issues from various angles while delivering a foundational business education in finance, management, economics, data analytics, and entrepreneurship. In addition, soft skills such as teamwork, effective communication, and problem-solving are incorporated into the program to produce effective, well-rounded business leaders.

To apply to the online MBA program, a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two or more years of professional work experience. MBA@Denver graduates may go on to positions such as marketing manager, sales manager, financial analyst, accounting manager, or public relations manager, among other roles in business.

The University of Denver is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The MBA@Denver is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

What to Expect from MBA@Denver

Admission Requirements: Applicants to the online MBA@Denver program must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have at least two years of full-time professional work experience, with three years preferred. Admissions materials include an online application, official transcripts with GPA, a resume, two essays with the option of a third, two letters of recommendation, and an application fee. Applicants may be contacted for an interview on campus or via Skype. The GMAT test is optional.

International students must provide proof of English language proficiency through a TOEFL, IELTS, or CAE test score. This requirement may be waived if the applicant obtained an undergraduate degree from a country whose native language is English.

Study Plan: The online MBA@Denver begins in January, March, June, or September. The program can be completed in 21 months. This consists of seven terms of 8–10 credits each. Concentration courses are completed after the MBA core courses. Electives are taken in the last three terms of the program. Students culminate their MBA experience with a capstone course in which they work with a local entity to address a challenge and present a written proposal to the business. Immersion experience dates depend on the student’s chosen location.

Curriculum: Students take a total of 60 credits in the MBA@Denver program. Core courses include Managerial Economics; Leading with Integrity; Financial Accounting and Reporting; Marketing Concepts; Strategic Management; and Managerial Finance. Advanced core courses include Strategic Accounting for Managers; Business Law and Public Policy; Business Statistics; Business Data and Analytics; Leading People and Organizations; Global Business, and MBA@Denver Capstone. Students also take four electives in their concentration, or a mixture for the general track or a specialized path to create a customized concentration.

  • Marketing: Students choose four of the following: Integrated Marketing Communication; Insights to Innovation; Supply Chain Management; Marketing for Social Impact; and Brand Management.
  • Finance: Courses include Financial Planning and Analysis; Financial Markets and Investments; Equity Analysis; and Advanced Business Valuation.
  • Executive Leadership: Courses include The Head and Heart of Leadership: Neuroscience and Emotional Intelligence
  • Customized: Those wishing to create a customized concentration may work with their academic advisor to define an area of focus and determine a list of four courses that will align with the student’s career goals. Examples of customized concentrations may include real estate finance, supply chain management, project management, international security, and nonprofit management.

Online Experience: The MBA@Denver combines live online classes with self-paced coursework and in-person immersions. Face-to-face live courses build relationships with classmates and faculty, making the experience more personal and engaging. The rigorous coursework utilizes multimedia channels to help students grow in leadership, business principles and skills, data analytics, communication, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. The in-person immersions build relationships and provide networking opportunities.

When students enroll, they receive a WeWork Global Access membership–which includes access to hundreds of workspace locations worldwide where students can collaborate with classmates; study; enjoy refreshments; and use workstations, Wi-Fi, printers, and copying services.

Students also have access to a network of more than 37,000 alumni who are ready to mentor, give network assistance, conduct informational interviews, and lead company tours.

In addition, the University of Denver offers extensive career services through Pioneer Careers, a database where students can upload a resume and cover letter for job applications, register for workshops and special events, apply for opportunities specific to Daniels students, and access other career resources. Students also have access to admissions assistance, program course planning, technical support, and academic advising, among other services.

On-Site Requirements: There are two in-person immersions required for the online MBA. One takes place in Denver and includes an outdoor leadership activity in the Rocky Mountains. Students can choose the other; a variety of locations is offered. Upcoming locations include Italy, New York, and South Africa. Immersions last three days and students have the opportunity to meet classmates, professors, business leaders, and alumni. Students are responsible for immersion fees and travel expenses. Graduates also are invited to participate in the on-campus graduation.

Paying for the MBA@Denver Online Program

The MBA@Denver tuition numbers are listed in the tables below, and do not include immersion experience costs, travel expenses, or books. Students should check with the admissions department of the Daniels College of Business for cost clarifications and updates.

MBA graduate students may apply for federal student loans through the FAFSA. Other funding opportunities include private loans, outside grants and scholarships, and tuition reimbursement programs with an employer.
