What to Expect from the University of North Georgia Online MBA Program
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the UNG online MBA program must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Applicants submit an online graduate application, official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended, a current resume that reflects all professional work experience, a statement of purpose, two professional letters of recommendation, and a non-refundable application fee.
Applicants must also have at least two years of full-time professional work experience. Applicants must have maintained a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0-point scale. Finally, a GMAT or GRE score is not required for admission but if such scores are provided they will be considered as part of the application.
Individuals who have not completed required prerequisite coursework may still apply. Applicants who do not have experience in one or more foundational content areas must complete foundation courses before starting MBA courses. Applications are specifically reviewed to determine an applicant’s past education in the subjects of financial accounting, corporate finance, macroeconomics, and mathematics (either business math or statistics). The MBA program coordinator may grant exceptions to the foundational content area requirement based on the applicant’s work history. After application materials have been both authenticated and reviewed, candidates receive an official admission letter indicating acceptance or denial of admission.
State Restrictions: The UNG MBA program welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, such as international applicants, military personnel, and transient students.
Many academic programs require international applicants to demonstrate two primary things in their applications. These are sufficient English language proficiency to suggest the applicant is likely to succeed in the program and an academic background that is roughly equivalent to that of successful domestic applicants. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to demonstrate language proficiency. The language proficiency requirement is waived for applicants who have received a degree from an accredited institution (definition listed under Accredited Institutions in the academic information section of the UNG graduate catalogue) or from institutions in countries where English is the primary language. Academic equivalency is determined by review of official international transcripts by an independent evaluation service that is a member of either the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). Finally, students who have an F1 visa to study in the United States are not eligible for admission because the program is part-time, while F1 visas require students to be enrolled as full-time students.
UNG also welcomes military and related personnel to enroll in its programs. UNG is one of six senior military colleges in the United States. Though UNG is known for its Army ROTC program and its Corps of Cadets, applicants to the online MBA program are not required to be active or former military personnel to qualify for admission. Individuals with military backgrounds are advised to contact UNG to confirm current admissions requirements for applicants with such backgrounds.
The UNG MBA program also accepts applications from what it calls transient students. A transient student is defined as an individual currently enrolled at an accredited institution as a graduate student in good standing. Transient students may only enroll in MBA elective courses. Individuals must receive pre-approval from the MBA Program Coordinator before enrolling in these courses. Transient students must submit an online graduate admissions application, an application fee, a letter of good standing or transient permission form in which it is documented that the student is not on academic probation or suspension at the student’s home institution, and proof of lawful presence in the United States in the event the applicant is seeking an in-state tuition rate. Admission for transient students is granted for one semester only.
Study Plan: Students can complete the UNG online MBA degree in approximately two years. Most students will complete six or seven credit hours during fall and spring semesters and no more than ten credit hours during the summer. Students lacking sufficient foundational knowledge upon admission may need to first complete additional coursework before being able to start the Cottrell MBA program. Students interested in completing their program of study over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current UNG policy regarding degree study planning.
MBA Curriculum: The UNG online MBA degree program features a 32 credit hour curriculum. The program is specifically designed to accommodate the needs of working professionals looking to advance or change their careers. The curriculum emphasizes the development of ethical leaders who will emphasize innovation, nimbleness and other qualities critical to success in the ever-changing business world. Students complete 26 credit hours of core courses. Core courses cover the following topics: accounting for decision making; leadership and motivation; supply chain and operations management; professionalism in business; marketing management; financial management; information management; strategic management in a global environment; economics & decision making; and a capstone leadership experience course.
Students complete six credit hours of elective coursework. Available elective courses vary each year. Students may complete courses from MCCB graduate certificate programs to count towards their elective coursework requirement. Students may also take graduate-level courses not offered by MCCB to fulfill their elective coursework requirement. Such classes may be completed at UNG in another degree program or at a different university altogether. Students seeking to take such courses must obtain prior approval by the MBA Program Coordinator.
Online Experience: The UNG online MBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-campus coursework or other on-site participation requirements to complete this program.
On-Site Requirements: As noted above, the UNG MBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-site requirements.
Paying for the UNG Online MBA Degree Program
The online MBA degree program tuition figures are listed in the tables below. The tuition rate is the same for all specializations profiled on this page. Prospective students should closely review tuition information and contact UNG for additional support with applications and questions as needed.
The UNG financial cost and aid webpage offers a variety of content explicitly dedicated to graduate student financial resources. Current students and applicants will find information on a number of topics, including scholarship resources via the UNG Nighthawk Scholarship Center, the HOPE scholarship, the financial aid application process, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, information on financial literacy/wellness, and much more.
Many students will ultimately finance their education using a combination of financial resources. One common form of aid many students use is federal aid. To determine eligibility for federal financial resources, students must complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA is released on an annual basis and is used to determine eligibility for a variety of federal aid.
Graduate students may be eligible for additional financial resources due to their particular backgrounds. Military personnel are but one example. In some states, military students can qualify for resources from both federal government agencies such as the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, as well as the state government. UNG hosts a dedicated webpage focused on financial resources specifically targeting military students. Examples of programs listed on this page include the GI BILL®, Army Tuition Assistance, the Georgia Hero Scholarship, the Georgia out-of-state tuition waiver, the UNG ROTC grant, the Yellow Ribbon Program, and much more. Given the complexity of backgrounds and needs, current and prospective students with military backgrounds, as well as all students of all other backgrounds, are strongly recommended to closely work with UNG when seeking to plan the financing of their higher education.
