University of Sioux Falls Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The University of Sioux Falls (USF) traces its history back to June, 1872 when a group of pastors and delegates within the Dakota Territory met in the first meeting of the Baptist Association. In that meeting, they adopted a resolution that would serve as the foundation for the creation of what would one day be USF. USF was first known as the Dakota Collegiate Institute. Though USF’s fortunes have waxed and waned throughout its history, it has remained steadfast in its mission of being a transformative university committed to both academic excellence and the Christian faith.
USF is a private Christian liberal arts college whose mission is to provide an atmosphere anchored in a culture of service. USF provides academic programs designed to prepare students for careers in which they contribute to their communities throughout the world.
The USF online master of business administration (MBA) program has two specializations. Students can complete a general MBA program or one with a concentration in healthcare. The USF MBA program is known for being one of the best such programs in the university’s local region. The mission of the MBA program is to create innovative and ethical leaders through a transformational learning experience.
USF, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). USF’s MBA program is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

What to Expect from USF Online MBA Programs
Admission Requirements: Admission to the USF MBA program is competitive. The MBA program is interested in applicants who have excelled academically, have compelling work experience, and possess the maturity necessary to complete graduate school.
To be eligible for admission, applicants must submit a complete online admission application, official transcripts, and a personal statement of no more than 500 words articulating their long-term education and career goals as well as any interests and experience especially relevant to the pursuit of an MBA degree. Applicants are expected to have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0-point scale) in their bachelor’s degree. Provisional admission may be granted to applicants who do not meet this GPA threshold as well as to those who lack prerequisite coursework in the subjects of accounting, microeconomics, and statistics. Those applicants whose undergraduate degree was not in business may take self-paced classes at USF.
In addition, students are permitted to begin the MBA Program before finishing these classes. Applicants whose GPA was less than 3.0 in undergraduate coursework must also submit a typed statement to the MBA director that provides information regarding circumstances that affected the applicant’s previous academic performance, the student’s maturity level and/or other circumstances relevant to consideration for admission to a graduate degree program. Students with provisional admission status must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 during their first three MBA courses and complete any competency course requirements before enrolling in the MBA core courses in these same subjects. Students who took the GMAT must submit their scores for use as a criterion in making an admission decision.
State Restrictions: USF welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds, such as international applicants and military personnel.
The USF International Education Office provides international students with the supportive resources necessary to succeed in their educational pursuits. International applicants to the USF online MBA program submit an online admission application, and their official transcripts from all colleges and universities they have attended. Applicants who completed at least a portion of their education outside the USA may be required to submit their transcripts to an approved foreign credential evaluation service provider. The completed evaluation must then be sent on to USF. Applicants must have maintained a GPA of at least 2.8 (on a 4.0-point scale) to be eligible for admission. International students may also need to demonstrate English language proficiency. Full details on the application process for international students can be found on the USF website.
Active duty military, veteran, and related students must complete the standard admission process, like other students. Applicants of all military branches must submit their military transcripts. Upon being approved for veteran education benefits, students submit a copy of their certificate of eligibility to the VA Certifying Official in the USF Registrar’s Office. This certificate indicates the benefit chapter (military applicants may be able to claim benefits under Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606, and 1607) and the amount of benefits the student has been awarded. Returning military students may also be required to submit a veteran’s information form and submit it to the previously referenced certifying official. The specific process for applying for veteran education benefits varies according to the student’s academic history. Full details on the admission process for military, veteran and related students can be found on the USF website or by contacting the university directly.
Study Plan: Students can complete the USF MBA degree in as little as 12 months. Students may transfer up to nine semester hours of graduate credit earned at other regionally accredited degree-granting institutions into the MBA program.
Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact USF to verify current university policy regarding degree study planning. All work necessary to earn the MBA must be completed within seven years from the date students complete the first course of the program.
MBA Curriculum: MBA students complete a total of 33 credits to earn their degree. All MBA students complete a series of nine core courses, totaling 27 credits, in the following topics: financial planning and control; innovation and problem solving; leadership and ethical management; managerial accounting; managerial economics; managing organizational dynamics; marketing management; strategic management; and technology and data analytics for managers. Proficiency in the subjects of accounting, microeconomics, and statistics is essential to student success. Students whose undergraduate degree was not in business may need to complete additional coursework to provide them with the necessary foundation. Students can take such courses in a self-paced manner from USF.
Students complete six credits of electives. Elective courses typically vary by degree specialization. Applicants can learn the details of elective coursework necessary for the two specializations by contacting the USF MBA program.
Online Experience: The USF MBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-campus coursework or other participation requirements to complete this program. By using an online learning delivery model USF expands the reach of its programs to more students than would otherwise be able to access them. The online learning model ultimately provides more students the option to enroll, study, and ultimately graduate from the USF MBA program.
On-Site Requirements: As noted above, the MBA degree program is offered fully online. There are no on-campus requirements.
Paying for the USF Online MBA Degree Programs
The tuition figures for the USF online MBA degree programs are listed in the tables below. USF takes pride in making its programs accessible to a diverse student body. One hundred percent of first-time, full-time freshman students receive financial aid at USF. Prospective students should carefully review the tuition information and contact USF for additional support with applications and any questions they may have.
The USF website provides information on a variety of topics relevant to the financial needs of its students. Online resources cover financial aid applications, federal student aid, tuition and costs associated with academic study, and an index of frequently asked questions on student financial aid.
Students often use a combination of resources to finance their education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a ubiquitous form that often serves as the primary application used to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid. The FAFSA is issued annually, and universities generally provide robust support to help students understand and complete it. Financial aid eligibility determinations generated by the FAFSA and other applications are often generated based on a number of factors, such as academic achievement, talent, financial need, and family background.
Students from certain backgrounds may be eligible for additional financial assistance. Examples of such backgrounds include military personnel, and those with significant obstacles in their family and personal backgrounds.
