Valdosta State University Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Valdosta State University (VSU) was originally founded as South Georgia State Normal College in 1906. In its early years, the college was dedicated solely to educating women. Decades later, in 1950, the college became coeducational and was renamed Valdosta State College. Finally, in 1993, the school was renamed once again, becoming Valdosta State University.
Today, VSU offers approximately 200 academic programs leading to associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Some VSU programs allow students to participate in research or work closely with faculty as soon as their first year of studies.
The VSU Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration (LCOBA) is a member of the Georgia WebMBA® program. VSU offers students the opportunity to earn an accredited masters of business administration (MBA) degree. The MBA program offers a generalist curriculum designed to prepare graduates for careers in both profit and not-for-profit organizations. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking skills, effective communication, diverse cultural perspectives, and problem-solving abilities.
VSU, located in Valdosta, Georgia, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). VSU’s online MBA program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

What to Expect from the VSU Online MBA Program
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the VSU WebMBA program may be granted one of two admission classifications. These classifications are regular status and probationary status. The MBA program does not offer admission for non-degree-seeking students and does not grant transient status.
Applicants must submit a complete online graduate application, an application fee, a resume, and official transcripts from their bachelor’s degree-granting university as well as from any universities where they completed graduate coursework. The WebMBA program requires two years of full-time work experience after the bachelor’s degree. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution in which they maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0-point scale on all coursework they attempted to complete.
Applicants who wish to receive an in-state tuition rate or a residency waiver must provide verification of lawful presence. Details on what is necessary to do this can be found on the VSU MBA program webpage.
State Restrictions: VSU welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds such as international applicants and military personnel.
International applicants must meet all admission requirements set forth for domestic applicants as well as potentially fulfill additional requirements based on their backgrounds. Two primary issues typically arise when considering international applicants. These confirm that the applicant has sufficient English-language ability to perform well in the program and that their foreign educational experience is sufficiently equivalent to that of domestic applicants, so they will have the necessary foundation to complete the MBA program. English language proficiency may be demonstrated by completing either the TOEFL exam or the IELTS exam. International applicants whose first language is not English may receive a waiver of this requirement if they completed their bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution. Information on the proficiency exam thresholds can be found online.
Applicants who completed coursework at an institution outside the USA must have a foreign academic credential evaluation provided by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) approved international education credentials evaluation service. Finally, international applicants must also provide a certificate of finance. This certificate verifies that a student has sufficient financial resources to cover the costs of their studies while living in the USA.
Military and related applicants can receive assistance with planning and pursuing their education through VSU Military and Veteran Services. VSU strives to be to a “military friendly” institution. Such applicants are advised to research the VSU website to learn more about the variety of resources available to them. Applicants with military backgrounds must submit their Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Air Force transcript as part of their admission application. Evaluation of transcripts may allow students to receive academic credit for basic training, service and other past experience. Active-duty and veteran applicants may request a waiver of the new student application fee. Active duty military must show proof of approval from their command’s Educational Services Officer (ESO) to enroll in MBA courses.
VSU does also offer admission to transfer students. Prospective students are advised to review the VSU website to fully inform themselves of the admission policy that applies to their particular circumstances.
Study Plan: Students can complete the MBA degree in as little as 12 to 18 months. Students interested in completing their program of study part-time or over an extended time period should contact a student services representative to verify current VSU policy regarding degree study planning.
MBA Program courses are offered in a hybrid format over a one-year cycle. Each core MBA course is offered once per year. Students can start the MBA Program in any semester. Students may take up to four classes in autumn and spring semesters and up to two classes in the summer term. By following this study plan a student can complete the degree in just 12 months.
MBA Curriculum: The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program features a 30-credit-hour, non-thesis curriculum. Students typically complete 10 graduate courses to earn their degree. There are no prerequisite coursework requirements for this program. Students are nonetheless expected to have a certain level of foundational knowledge in managerial accounting, financial accounting, financial management, microeconomics, and statistics. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact the LCOBA Graduate Director with questions regarding their foundational knowledge.
Students complete four MBA core courses. Students complete courses in the topics of managerial accounting; marketing; and managerial finance. They complete a fourth course by choosing from the following topics: strategic management of enterprises; strategic management of global enterprise; or strategic management consulting in action. Students complete elective courses to fulfill their remaining six graduate courses. Details on available courses can be found by contacting the VSU MBA program.
Online Experience: As previously noted, the VSU MBA program is a hybrid program. Universities that use a variety of learning delivery models can typically significantly expand their applicant pool and thereby increase the number of students who enroll, study, and graduate from their programs.
On-Site Requirements: Students must attend a two-day residential orientation course in Atlanta. Prospective students should contact the MBA program directly to confirm details of program requirements that require an on-site presence as these requirements are subject to change over time.

The VSU Office of Financial Aid assists students with the planning and execution of their educational financing. VSU’s website provides information on a variety of financial resource topics, including the various types of financial aid available, information specific to veterans’ needs, financial aid FAQs, and cost of attendance.
Many students will ultimately use a combination of resources to finance their education.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a ubiquitous form that often serves as the primary application for determining eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid. The FAFSA is issued annually, and universities generally provide robust support to help students understand and complete it. Financial aid eligibility determinations generated by the FAFSA and other applications are often generated based on a number of factors.
Students from certain backgrounds may be eligible for additional or special financial assistance. Examples of such backgrounds include military personnel and those with significant obstacles in their family and personal backgrounds. All prospective graduate students are advised to thoroughly research the VSU website.
