Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) offers an online master of business administration (MBA) with a healthcare management track that can be completed in eight semesters including summers. This online MBA is offered through the Weatherhead School of Management. Students come to the Cleveland, Ohio campus for two, 3.5-day summer immersions completed in hospitals, following the completion of two courses: experiential learning in healthcare and dialogues in healthcare management.
About 40 percent of the Case online MBA program is devoted to the healthcare core. Courses cover topics from a healthcare lens including decision-making, artificial intelligence (AI), economics and finance, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, lean operations, regulations, and population health.
CWRU has long-standing relationships with the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, and University Hospitals—all of which are nationally known healthcare institutions in the Cleveland area. Online courses are delivered synchronously with 60 to 90 minutes of live, face-to-face classes each week. Coursework is then self-paced in weekly learning modules for added flexibility. Students also participate in study groups, discussion boards, and other multimedia venues to make this program incredibly interactive. Students have support throughout the program and after graduation.
Graduates of the CWRU online MBA program may go on to leadership and management positions in the healthcare industry including hospitals, government agencies, healthcare groups, long-term health facilities, and private practice groups.

What to Expect from the Case Western Reserve University Online MBA in Healthcare Management
Admission Requirements: Application materials include an online application, two essays, a current resume, unofficial transcripts, and the names and contact information for two recommenders. Students will also be asked to complete an interview. Those who don’t have much work experience should include any internships, or part-time or co-op employment. Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. No GMAT is required.
Study Plan: Courses run in the fall, spring, and summer with start dates offered at these same junctures. The online MBA with a healthcare management track can be completed in eight semesters including summers a little over 2.5 years. Students complete live online courses with two summer residencies.
Curriculum: The online MBA program comprises 48 credits plus two residencies. The MBA core courses include probability, statistics, and quantitative methods; accounting for managers; leadership assessment and development (LEAD); statistics and decision modeling; managing people and organizations; economics for managers; financial management; managerial marketing; strategic issues and applications; and operations management.
The healthcare core courses include experiential learning in healthcare (includes a residency); healthcare decision-making; AI in healthcare; finance issues and applications in healthcare; digital innovation in healthcare; economic issues in applications and healthcare; dialogues and healthcare management (includes a residency); lean operations and healthcare systems; innovation and entrepreneurship in healthcare; regulatory issues in healthcare management; and an introduction to population health.
Online Experience: Case Western Reserve University utilizes Canvas as its online Learning Management System (LMS). Courses are delivered real-time in face-to-face virtual sessions approximately 60 to 90 minutes per week. These sessions include collaboration with faculty and peers including live chat, the exchange of feedback and ideas, questions and answers, and insights.
As well, students have access to faculty office hours, discussion boards, group work, and networking. In addition to the synchronous sessions, students complete asynchronous learning modules each week in order to prepare for the live sessions.
Students also complete the two summer residencies at area hospitals and clinics, gaining valuable experience in different settings, cultures, and operations. Student services include student success coaches, career services, a vibrant alumni network, library services, and technical support.
On-Site Requirements: There are two three-day summer residencies that take place at the Cleveland, Ohio campus and in the greater Cleveland area. All other coursework is online.

The CWRU online MBA with a healthcare management track costs $1,500 per credit.
