Nevada, home to “America’s Playground,” Las Vegas, is a large state predominantly covered in desert. Over 86 percent of the land in Nevada is owned by the government. Despite the sparse population of only 25 people per square mile, this state boasts a robust infrastructure and growing economy.

Silver was discovered in Nevada in 1859 leading to a population boom that helped it establish statehood in 1864. Mining still remains a critical part of the economy as its largest export. Nevada is the leading producer in the US of gold, silver, and mercury.

Nevada’s other main industries include aerospace and defense, information technology, healthcare, energy, and agriculture. Nicknamed the “Entertainment Capital of the World,” Nevada’s economy also relies heavily on tourism and gambling. Las Vegas is considered the gold standard of the hospitality and gaming sectors and the state is home to many of the thought leaders of this industry.
