The College of Business at the University of Wyoming offers two cohort-based, lock-step online MBA programs designed to prepare students to apply high-level business concepts in practical ways in a range of industries. In other words, these programs boast small class sizes with the same students throughout the degree and offer a set course sequence that must be completed without starting and stopping.

The general track online MBA is a 30-credit-hour program with coursework in financial accounting, business research methods, decision modeling, and the global business environment. UW also offers a 39-credit online MBA with an energy concentration for professionals who are in the energy industry. Students enrolled in energy MBA program complete three additional courses: supply chain management in the energy industry, energy finance: project evaluation, and the fundamentals of accounting in the energy industry.

GMAT scores are required to apply. GMAT waivers may be available for those with business or STEM degrees and a 3.0 GPA or higher, OR those with ten or more years of management experience. Although work experience is not required, UW’s program is competitive and five or more years of professional work experience are preferred. Students without a business or STEM degree or without three or more years of professional experience will need to prove proficiency in statistics, accounting, and economics.

Hybrid MBA Programs in Wyoming

Hybrid programs are those that combine the flexibility of completing coursework online with the opportunity to participate in on-campus or in-person experiences. This may occur in the form of the ability to take some courses online and opt in to some courses on campus. Universities also offer hybrid programming the form of intensives, residencies, capstones, or orientations.

At the time of this writing, the University of Wyoming is the only university in the state offering an MBA program. While they do offer on campus MBA programming, their model is cohort-based and dedicated to small class sizes. Online students interested in taking courses on campus may be able to negotiate taking brick-and-mortar courses on a case-by-case basis, but this is not an advertised component of this program.

  • Robert Godby, PhD

    Dr. Robert Godby is the director for Energy Economics and Public Policies Center and an associate professor of economics in the College of Business at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Godby’s research interests include environmental and resource economics, industrial organization, macroeconomic policy, and energy economics. He teaches courses on macroeconomics, econometrics, resource and environmental economics and policy, and industrial organization.

    Dr. Godby is a published scholar with two books on the European financial crisis, and scholarly articles published in refereed journals, including the George Washington Journal of Energy & Environmental Law, the Electricity Journal, Resource and Energy Economics, and the International Journal of Industrial Organization. In addition to his scholarship, Dr. Godby has served as a reviewer for 21 scholarly journals over the last five years, including the Journal of Environment and Development, Strategic Behavior and the Environment, Resource and Energy Economics, and the Energy Journal. Dr. Godby earned his master of arts in economics from the University of Guelph and his PhD in economics from McMaster University.

  • Mark Leach, PhD

    Dr. Mark Leach is the Frank and Barbara Mendecinco Chair in Sales and Salesmanship and a professor of marketing in the College of Business at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Leach’s areas of expertise include sales training and business relationship development. His teaching foci include professional selling, sales force management, and business-to-business marketing.

    Dr. Leach is a published scholarly author with works appearing in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, the Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing, and the Journal of Satisfaction, Dissatisfaction and Complaining Behavior.

    In 2005, Dr. Leach won the Marvin Jolson Award for the best article contributing to sales management practice from the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales. He is also a recognized reviewer, earning best Reviewer of the Year in 2005 from the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales, and two awards for the same honor in 2015 ans 2016 from the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing. Dr. Leach earned his PhD in marketing from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.

  • Ali Nejadmalayeri, PhD, MBA

    Dr. Ali Nejadmalayeri is the John A. Guthrie Endowed Chair of Banking and Financial Services and an associate professor of finance in the College of Business at the University of Wyoming. His research interests include corporate and municipal bonds and taxation and real estate, and his teaching interests including banking, fixed income, and financial markets.

    Dr. Nejadmalayeri has several refereed articles appearing in major academic journals including the Journal of Investing, the North American Journal of Economics and Finance, the Journal of Fixed Income, and the Journal of Banking and Finance. Six of Dr. Nejadmalayeri’s academic works have appeared on the Social Science Research Network’s (SSRN) top ten download lists; five in the Economic Research Network (ERN) and one in Other Decision Making (ORG) category.

    Dr. Nejadmalayeri is also a decorated professor and researcher. He won the Merrick Foundation Teaching Award on the American Free Enterprise System in 2017 and the Oklahoma State-Tulsa President’s Outstanding Faculty Research Award in 2016. Dr. Nejadmalayeri earned his MBA in finance from Texas A&M University at Kingsville and earned his PhD in finance from the University of Arizona.
