Rider University Online MBA Program

The Rider University Norm Brodsky College of Business offers an online MBA with a general track or one of two concentrations: business analytics, or finance. The school is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey with another campus in Princeton, NJ. Courses are taught by faculty who hold doctoral degrees and also serve on-campus. Rider University also offers an on-campus executive MBA, a hybrid MBA, and dual MBA degrees.

The program focuses on a broad understanding of business operations that takes into account the complex landscape of today’s businesses. Topics of instruction include supply chain management, multicultural marketing, international growth, ethical decision-making, leadership skills such as interpersonal communication, team building, and management skills, business analytics, and economic strategy. With small class sizes, one-on-one access to faculty, mentoring programs, and feedback from corporate executives, students have the opportunity for a hands-on experience in an online environment.

Students may choose to complete the business analytics concentration in which they learn the latest technologies in data analytics, data mining, business administration, and database management. The finance concentration focuses on investment tools and strategies, alternative investments, financial management, portfolio management, and personal financial planning. The global business concentration focuses on the intricacies of the international economy and the policies that affect businesses that operate globally such as international trade theory, ethics, international monetary systems, global marketing, and global technology.

Graduates of the MBA program may go on to a variety of positions depending on their concentration, including marketing managers, project managers, operations managers, research analysts, global business managers and management analysts.

What to Expect from the Rider University Online MBA

Admission Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Degrees earned abroad must be deemed equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
    Official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended. You may transfer up to 6 graduate business credits (2 courses) from an AACSB-accredited graduate program into the online MBA program. Transfer credits will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • A current résumé.
  • GMAT and GRE waivers are available for those with an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited school with an overall GPA of 3.0 or has 5 or more years of professional experience. Waivers are also available for those with a graduate degree from a regionally accredited school or those who have passed a business-related, professional certifying exam, such as the CPA, CFA, CMA, etc. Other academic and professional experience will also be considered for waiver eligibility.
  • Accounting/business foundation courses may be required prior to the start of online MBA courses for career changers. These foundation courses may be waived based on academic and professional experience. All courses are available online. Credential evaluation is available prior to application.

Study Plan: Rider University offers six start dates for the online MBA including two each in the fall, spring, and summer. Online students can complete the degree in less than two years. All students attend an online orientation at the beginning of the program.

Curriculum: The Rider University MBA consists of 36 credits for the general MBA and 39 credits if pursuing a concentration. Students without a prior business degree may need to take up to 18 credits of foundation courses before beginning MBA courses.

Core courses include executive communications, information technology management, strategic accounting for managers, managerial economics, applied corporate finance, operations and supply chain management, marketing analysis and decision-making, advanced organizational behavior, legal and ethical aspects of management and strategic management.

The business analytics concentration includes nine credits from the following courses: business intelligence tech-data mining, applied data management for business users, business analytics for managers, or independent studies in business administration.

The finance concentration includes nine credits from the following courses: investment instruments and strategies, international finance management, personal financial planning, or independent studies in business administration.

Note that all independent studies must be sponsored by a full-time faculty member and must be approved by the associate dean.

The program foundation courses for those who do not hold a bachelor’s in business degree consists of the following: information technology proficiency, economic analysis, the fundamentals of accounting, basic financial principles, an introduction to calculus, models and methods of operations management, the fundamentals of statistical analysis, basic marketing principles, and management theory and application. The equivalent courses include business math and statistics, Excel for MBA students, financial accounting and managerial accounting, the fundamentals of economics, operations management, the principles of management, the principles of marketing, and understanding corporate finance.

Students may be able to waive some foundation courses depending on previous education and work experience. Various foundation course waiver criteria exist such as when the class was taken and the grade received in the class. Students must take foundation courses if they have never taken the undergraduate equivalent course or if they received below a C+ in the class.

Online Experience: Rider University utilizes Canvas as its online Learning Management System (LMS). The online orientation helps new students navigate the Canvas LMS. Online course material follows the same curriculum and materials used in on-campus courses. Typically faculty will post questions at the beginning of each week for discussion and expect students to log in to ensure class participation in online discussions, individual and group projects, readings, assignments, papers and assessments.

All Rider University students are assigned a student support advisor and have access to one-on-one faculty hours, admissions counseling, academic counseling, mentoring programs, library services, career services, and 24/7 technical support.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the Rider MBA is 100 percent online. Students are welcome to come to campuses at any time and participate in campus graduation.
